Former u-19 Scotland international Jack Harper recently indicated (Daily Record) that he would be open to a move to an Old Firm club in the future. The 23-year-old is currently a Getafe player but is on loan with Spanish second-tier side Alcorcon. The striker spent six years of his youth career with Spanish giants Real Madrid.
After that, he moved on to English club Brighton where he spent two years. Getafe signed him this summer on a five-year deal and decided to send him away on loan to the second-tier club Alcorcon.
Harper on joining Old Firm clubs
Harper was born in Spain to Scottish parents, and he claimed that they are Rangers fan. However, the 23-year-old is said to be neutral when it comes to choosing a side in the Old Firm. He said, ”My parents are Rangers fans, I am a little more neutral. I like to watch the derbies for the passion and intensity, but I do not choose a side. The league is becoming more powerful.”
On moving to Scotland, he said, ”I don’t think about it now. I have 12 years left in my career, and anything can happen. In general, the Scottish Premiership is beautiful; it has mythical teams.”
Is Harper worth considering in the future for Gerrard?
Harper has played for Scotland at the u-15,17 and 19 levels, but he has failed to make it to the senior team. However, Getafe have handed him a huge chance to prove his worth as they signed him on a long term deal. He was seen as an impressive talent when he was with the Real Madrid youth team, but he has failed to get going at the top level so far.
Last season in La Liga 2 with Malaga, Harper managed four goals and two assists in 25 appearances in the league. The striker is versatile enough to play on the flanks as well. Harper’s standout asset is his pace, and he can trouble quite a few defenders with it. That is why he can play in the wide regions as well. However, he is yet to have a prolific goal-scoring season at the senior level so the jury is still out on whether he will be a good signing for Rangers or not.
Getafe have him under contract until 2024, so we think that he will likely cost a few million in the transfer market. Maybe Rangers can keep track of his progress, but at the moment they don’t need to be too excited for him as he is yet to prove his worth.
