According to a recent report by Football.London, Everton midfield ace Andre Gomes is set to make his first-team return against West Ham United at Goodison Park on Saturday afternoon. The Toffees playmaker will make his long-awaited return after he picked up a rib injury against Wolverhampton Wanderers at the start of the previous month.
Gomes’ Uneventful And Injury-ridden Start To This Campaign
Marco Silva has carefully managed him back to full fitness so the Portuguese talent should now be ready to put in a decent run of performances alongside Fabian Delph at the heart of the Everton midfield. Gomes joined the Merseyside outfit on a season-long loan deal last summer and has since put in some eye-catching displays at Goodison Park. He has been exceptional at times for the Toffees at the middle of the park.
Therefore, Silva decided to make his stay permanent when he signed him earlier this summer. However, the Portugal international has failed to repay his manager’s faith as he made a slow start to this Premier League campaign.
The 26-year-old has featured in five league matches for Everton this term but is yet to find the back of the net. Hence, he will be desperate to make a strong impression when he comes back to face off against Manuel Pellegrini’s men this Sunday.
What Does The Portuguese Rising Star Add To Silva’s Side?
Gomes can be a standout performer in midfield as he is not afraid to dictate play and create chances for others around him. He hardly gives away the ball and can also provide adequate protection for his teammates at the back. However, the Portuguese prospect is way too inconsistent in terms of his performances on the field, which is why his time at Barcelona was cut short.
Gomes Set To Start Vs West Ham: Big Boost For The Toffees?
Silva needs to find a way to get the best out of Gomes. Maybe the most effective to do that would be to give him more game time on the pitch. The former Valencia midfield general can still be one of the best players in the Toffees first-team when he is playing with confidence at both ends of the field.
With Dominic Calvert-Lewin enjoying a rich vein of form in the domestic competitions, Gomes might fancy his chances of picking up an assist or two against West Ham this weekend. Hence, no doubt having the Portuguese creator-in-chief back will be a massive boost for Silva and his hopes of turning things around for the better at Merseyside this season.
