According to a recent report by Fox Sports Italy, AS Monaco could recall Djibril Sidibe from his loan spell at Everton in January. The same source has revealed that the Ligue 1 outfit might be tempted to cut Sidibe’s loan spell short if AC Milan makes a substantial bid for the right-back during the winter transfer period.
Sidibe’s Frustrating Start To This Campaign
The 27-year-old has failed to secure a regular starting berth under Marco Silva’s tutelage at Goodison Park. His loan spell at Merseyside has been underwhelming so far. However, Sidibe could get more opportunities after the international break if he can put in an impressive performance against West Ham United this Saturday. Seamus Coleman was given his marching orders after receiving two yellow cards during the Toffees’ 1-0 loss away at Burnley earlier this month.
Barring any late injuries, Silva will have no choice but to play Sidibe at the right-back spot this weekend. The Troyes-born talent has made three appearances for the Merseysiders this term and has one assist to his name in multiple competitions.
Sidibe was an integral part of the famous French squad that lifted the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia last summer. He has earned 18 international caps for the French national side and has scored one goal for his homeland in the process.
What Are The French Right-Back’s Best Attributes?
Sidibe is a quick and agile full-back who can make some lung-bursting runs down the right flank. He works hard for his side and doesn’t mind going the extra mile, which makes him a useful asset at Silva’s disposal. However, the French defensive ace needs to improve his productivity going forward if he wants to succeed at the highest level.
Can The Toffees Afford To Let Sidibe Go In January?
The former LOSC Lille defender is versatile enough to operate in both full-back positions or play in a more advanced role down the right-wing. Sidibe’s versatility, coupled with his pace and work-rate, make him an essential member of the Toffees squad. Therefore, Silva cannot afford to let him leave without bringing in a suitable replacement who can push Coleman for the right-back berth at Goodison Park.
The France international needs to play more often so that he can prove his worth at the highest level. Thus, he might fancy his chances away from Merseyside if AC Milan comes calling for his signature this winter.
