In a recent interview ahead of Everton’s 1-0 loss at the hands of Burnley on Saturday (via the Liverpool Echo), Marco Silva was asked about the possibility of signing Kurt Zouma from Chelsea during the January transfer window. The Toffees replied (via the Liverpool Echo), “It’s too far for us to talk about these possible situations over what will happen or not in January.
“We have to keep full focus on our players, what we are doing to improve and keep improving as a team, this is the main thing for us.
“When the window opens again you can talk about the situation but in this moment we are fully focused on our players and always focused on the next game and nothing more than that.”
Zouma’s Impressive Spell In The English Top-Flight
Silva has refused to rule out a January move for the Pensioners centre-back as he is desperate to add more quality to his squad. The Merseyside club are currently in a wretched run of form and has dropped down to the 17th place in the Premier League standings. They have collected just seven points in eight league matches thus far.
Zouma has made ten appearances for the Pensioners this season, scoring one goal while grabbing one assist on all fronts. More importantly, on the defensive end, he has made an average of 0.6 tackles, 1.3 interceptions and 3.4 clearances per game for Chelsea this term (stats via whoscored).
The 24-year-old will be an excellent fit for the Toffees as he had already experienced playing for the Merseyside club when he was on a season-loan last season. Zouma has also earned four international caps for the French national side so far.
What Does The French Defensive Ace Offer On The Field?
Zouma can be a defensive powerhouse who can be a reliable defender at the back. The Lyon-born talent can make a few vital clearances for his side. He has incredible upper body strength and can win a lot of 50-50 aerial duels on the field. The Frenchman is also a decent tackler and can make some timely interceptions for his side.
Should Everton Go Back In For Zouma?
The addition of a defender of Zouma’s potential will undeniably bolster Silva’s defensive options at Goodison Park. He will not only provide more defensive cover at the back but will also improve the overall depth of the Everton squad if Silva can convince him to join the Toffees this winter.
Everton will be foolish not to make an offer to sign him permanently in January as they are in dire need of a commanding figure inside their own penalty box.
