Tottenham Hotspur travelled to the Amex Stadium to clash heads with Brighton and Hove Albion earlier today hoping to bounce back from their humiliating 7-2 defeat to Bayern Munich. Spurs made a sloppy start to the match and conceded in the 3rd minute when Neal Maupay scored from close range. Aaron Connoly doubled the home team’s advantage in the 32nd minute which left Mauricio Pochettino’s side with a mountain to climb in the second half.
It was Connoly who struck again in the 65th minute, much to the delight of the Brighton supporters. The match finished with the final scoreline of 3-0 in favour of the Seagulls.
Let’s take a look at how each Spurs player fared during the clash versus the Seagulls.
GK: Hugo Lloris – N/A
The French keeper suffered a horrific injury in the 3rd minute and had to be stretched off.
RB: Moussa Sissoko – 3.5/10
He looked uncomfortable while operating as a makeshift right-back. Sissoko was defensively vulnerable and looked average at best going forward.
CB: Toby Alderweireld – 3/10
The Belgian defensive ace found it difficult to cope with the Brighton attackers and ended up conceding three goals in the process.
CB: Jan Vertonghen – 4/10
The Spurs centre-back fought hard but failed to keep the Seagulls at bay during the game. He was also at fault in the lead-up to Brighton’s second goal of the match.
LB: Ben Davies – 3/10
The Welsh full-back was too slow and struggled to get himself involved in the opposition half.
CM: Eric Dier – 3/10
Dier was out of his depth and looked shaky in midfield. He won’t be happy with his performance today.
CM: Tanguy Ndombele – 3/10
The summer signing was ineffective in the first half and was substituted at half-time.
CAM: Christian Eriksen – 3/10
The Dane failed to create anything meaningful going forward. He looked like a player out of form.
RM: Erik Lamela – 5/10
The Argentine playmaker refused to give up, but all of his efforts were in vain. He lacked the cutting edge in the Brighton half.
LM: Heung-min Son – 4.5/10
The South Korean winger was starved of goal-scoring opportunities but made very little with the chances that fell in his path.
ST: Harry Kane – 4/10
The English centre-forward was an isolated figure up top. He made minimal impact on the field.
Substitutes:
GK: Paulo Gazzaniga – 4/10
He ended up conceding three goals during the game after coming on to replace the injured Hugo Lloris.
CM: Harry Winks – 5/10
The English midfielder brought some energy to the Spurs midfield but struggled to be a creative outlet in the opposition half.
RM: Lucas Moura – 6/10
The Brazilian wide player should have started this game. He came off the bench to put in a decent cameo in the final quarter of the contest.
