Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s Manchester United side were lucky to pick up a point against table-toppers Liverpool in what was a tight and strenuous game of Premier League action. Even though the European champions were in the ascendancy for most of the tie, a first-half goal from Marcus Rashford was enough to keep the tie at 1-0 until the 85th minute. It was only after this that Adam Lallana was afforded an easy opening by the United defence.
Let’s take a look at how the Manchester United players were rated from their draw Vs Liverpool.
David De Gea – 6
Untroubled at first during large periods of the game because of the sheer spirit that the United defence showed. Was absolutely helpless against Adam Lallana’s late equaliser.
Victor Lindelof – 6
The United centre-half was on top of his game in the first half but showcased his usual struggles in the second. Unable to clear satisfactorily on more than one occasion, and he has a lot of improving to do.
Harry Maguire – 6
United’s new defensive signing kept the Liverpool attack quiet for the majority of the game, although waves of attacks in the final 10 minutes proved too challenging to deal with in the end.
Marcos Rojo – 6
Rojo assumed a rather sombre role today and did well as United transitioned from attack to defence. His defending was still somewhat questionable despite United’s good performance.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka – 6
Another one of United’s new acquisitions from the recent transfer window proved to be stellar in keeping Liverpool’s dynamic attack at bay. It will be interesting to see how Wan Bissaka establishes himself during the remainder of the season.
Scott McTominay – 6
The young Englishman was far from his best on the night but did a decent job trying to keep the potent Liverpool defence at bay for the entire 90 minutes.
Fred – 5
The Brazilian had multiple opportunities to increase United’s lead in the 2nd period but was unable to convert any of them. He is yet to really settle into life at Manchester United.
Ashley Young – 5
The United veteran has been slowing down heavily over the past couple of seasons. He didn’t put up an overly inspiring performance and can improve drastically.
Andreas Pereira – 6
The young midfielder wasn’t at his best on the night and will be looking to improve in the games ahead. Although he showed signs of quality, he needs to work on his passing and forward movements.
Marcus Rashford – 7
Held up play fairly well and proved his detractors wrong by performing in a number nine role. Was on the spot to score United’s goal and worked hard to maintain that lead until the final stages.
Daniel James – 6
The youngster wasn’t in full flow tonight, and he struggled to deal with the constant pressure from the Liverpool full-back in the 2nd half. However, his assist for Rashford’s goal was really something.
