According to a recent report by The Daily Mail, Premier League club Brighton and Hove Albion are said to be looking at the possibility of signing Rangers’ 23-year-old Finnish international midfielder Glen Kamara. The defence-minded midfield destroyer was a once member of the Arsenal youth academy but was released by the Gunners to Dundee FC on a free transfer in 2017.
After making a move to the Scottish Premiership, he ended up making such a good name for himself that the Gers decided to sign him in the winter window last term. Since joining Rangers for a nominal fee in January, the midfielder went on to become a mainstay in Steven Gerrard’s midfield setup. This season though, he’s only played three league games so far, making the possibility of him leaving the Ibrox stadium plausible.
How Did Glen Kamara End Up A Rangers Star?
Despite being brought up in England from a young age, the fact that he was born in Tampere, Finland, meant that he was always affiliated to the Finnish national side as well. His involvement with the Finnish youth setup from a very young age, also meant that his national allegiance was always going to be up in the air.
Having begun his youth career in England, the youngster was actually a member of the Southend United youth academy. He went on to join the Gunners for an undisclosed fee in the summer of 2012, following an extremely impressive display in front of the Arsenal scouts.
After a couple of seasons at the Emirates switching between the youth and developments squads, he was eventually loaned back to Southend United, but this time to play in the first team. He had a reasonably successful spell at Southend and was then loaned out to Colchester to gain some much-needed first-team experience. Despite his best efforts, he wasn’t able to impress too much at the lower league club, and was eventually sold by the Gunners to Scottish Premiership side Dundee FC.
After a stellar year with the Scottish side, he impressed the Rangers scouts with his dominant displays in the middle of the park. Able to make space for himself to move using his strength alone, the Finland international would be an excellent addition to any squad looking for a dynamic ball-winner who can drive the team forward as well.
Would Glen Kamara Be A Good Fit For Brighton?
The Seagulls have struggled to take control of fixtures, even when they’ve scored the opening goal. Kamara is precisely the kind of player who can come in and make the most of a situation like this. Graham Potter’s men have been on the rise in recent weeks, thanks to some excellent work across the pitch. The addition of a name like Kamara could be the key that unlocks the Brighton puzzle.
We believe Potter would do well to try and convince Gerrard to get a deal done for the player. No manager likes letting their better players leave, but this season the midfielder has strangely been on the periphery of the Rangers squad. After all, Gerrard did say the following in 2018: “All my players are for sale. Let’s get it out in the open. Every single one of my players is for sale. They have all got a price.
Perhaps it is time Brighton tests Gerrard’s resolve by putting in a multi-million pound bid, allowing Rangers to make a quick profit on someone who is not even a first-team starter at the moment.
