According to a recent report by Tuttosport, Inter Milan have gotten in touch with Barcelona midfielder Ivan Rakitic’s representatives to discuss a potential move during the January transfer window. The same source has also claimed that the Croatia international is currently unhappy about his situation at the Nou Camp and has fallen out of favour with Barca boss Ernesto Valverde.
Rakitic’s Fall From Grace At Barcelona
Rakitic has only managed to secure 186 minutes of playing for the Catalan outfit this season. He has been a frustrated figure so far. Hence, a move to Inter might be a welcome one considering he will be able to earn more game time on the field.
The likes of Frenkie de Jong, Arthur Melo, Arturo Vidal and Sergio Busquets are all ahead of the Croat in the Nou Camp pecking order. The 31-year-old has made six appearances for Valverde’s team but is yet to open his goal-scoring or assist-making accounts for this campaign.
Rakitic was a part of the famous Croatia squad that reached the final of the FIFA World Cup in Russia last year. He has managed to earn 107 international caps for Croatia, scoring 15 goals in the process.
The Croatia International Knows What It Takes To Win Trophies
Rakitic primarily operates as a free-flowing box to box even though he has lost a yard of pace over the past couple of seasons. Since completing a switch from Sevilla back in 2014, the Croat has gone on to win the UEFA Champions League trophy once and the La Liga title four times with Barca.
He is a serial winner who would want to make the most out of the remainder of his playing career. At 31, Rakitic still has some time left to play at his best. However, the 2018 FIFA World Cup finalist needs to ensure that he gets regular first-team chances this season if he wants to reignite his faltering career in European football.
Should Valverde Ship Rakitic Out Of Spain?
Rakitic has enjoyed a brilliant spell at Catalunya, making a total of 274 appearances for Barca while netting 34 goals and grabbing 37 assists for them on all fronts. Valverde needs to decide on the player’s future soon as Rakitic deserves to know his fate after being a loyal servant to the Spanish giants. Hence, it makes sense for the Catalans to allow him to join Inter Milan when the transfer window reopens in January.
