According to a recent report by Calciomercato, Arsenal are lining up a €56m offer to secure the services of their former player and current PSV Eindhoven striker Donyell Malen. However, the same source has also claimed that the Gunners will face stiff competition from Napoli, Roma and Juventus in pursuit of the Dutch whizkid.
Donyell Malen’s Remarkable Rise In Dutch Football
Malen came through the youth ranks of AFC Ajax before he decided to make a big move to England to play for Arsenal back in 2015. However, things did not go according to plan for him at the Emirates Stadium. The Wieringen-born prospect ended up moving back to his homeland to play for PSV in the summer of 2017.
The 20-year-old managed to break out as a first-team starter at the Philips Stadion and has gradually transformed himself into a consistent goal-scorer in the Dutch top-flight. Malen has put in some spectacular displays under Mark van Bommel’s stewardship this season. He has made 17 appearances for the Eredivisie outfit this term, finding the back of the net on 14 occasions while providing five assists in multiple competitions.
The European rising star has already managed to earn two international caps for the Netherlands national side and has netted one goal for his country so far.
What Will The Dutch Wonderkid Add To Unai Emery’s Side?
Malen is one of quickest players in the top tier of the Netherlands and can make a few dangerous runs behind the opposition backline. The Dutch prospect is also pretty effective when he is trying to hold the ball up to get his teammates involved in the offensive end of the pitch. He is not afraid to have a pop at goal and has transformed himself into a prolific goal-getter.
Malen has all the makings of a future star in English football if he decides to return to Arsenal. Unai Emery could use him as a back-up for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette. Hence, the Dutch starlet will undoubtedly improve the overall depth and will also increase competition for places within the Gunners squad.
Therefore, it makes a lot of sense for Emery to move in for the Dutch sensation as he looks to build towards a brighter future at the North London club.
