According to a recent report by Spanish outlet El Desmarque, Unai Emery’s Arsenal side are said to be consistently monitoring the situation of Real Madrid winger Lucas Vazquez. It has been suggested that the Gunners’ manager is an admirer of the 28-year-old and that he’s willing to offer the Spanish international an opportunity to kickstart his stagnating career. It has also been claimed that Real Madrid are willing to let the winger leave if the financial requisites are met.
What is His Current Situation?
Seemingly behind both Rodrygo and Vinicius Jr. in the pecking order at the Bernabeu now, it’s slowly beginning to look like Vazquez would be best off looking to ply his trade somewhere else. Although he has been given ample opportunities at Real Madrid over the years, the winger has never really lived up to expectations. Considering the obvious quality he possesses, moving to a club where he is appreciated for his talents seems like his safest bet at this time
Despite completing the full ninety minutes on two separate occasions in the league this season, his influence within the squad is depleting. Since playing against Osasuna at the end of September, Vazquez has yet to feature in La Liga for Madrid. Although he sat the Atletico Madrid game out on the bench, for the Galacticos’ tie against Granada, he was completely omitted from the squad.
What He Brings to the Table?
Vazquez has been at Real Madrid since joining the U17s from FC Ural, all the way back in 2007. Although he has only been utilised sparingly this term, over the last few years, he has developed into a considerable part of the Real Madrid squad. Having been at the club since a young age, he does boast a ‘Galactico’ mentality that would help him move in the right direction, wherever he goes.
Despite not being blindingly fast, Vazquez has the skill and technical ability to pick a pass or beat a man depending on whatever the situation warrants. He has featured in over 190 matches for Los Blancos and has a fairly impressive record of 22 goals and 44 assists. Despite all the massive stars that have come and gone at the Bernabeu, Vazquez had managed to hold down a place in the side until now.
Does This Move Make Sense for Arsenal?
To pick out one area of the pitch where this Arsenal side need improvement is a challenging task, given the sheer number of problems Unai Emery is faced with. Although some defenders are a necessity indeed, moving for another winger to distribute the attacking workload more evenly would seem like a smart call. The Gunners’ dependence on Pierre Emerick Aubameyang to score goals needs to stop, and Nicolas Pepe hasn’t really clicked so far. Adding Vazquez into the mix could be the solution.
He brings a degree of energy and enthusiasm on the flanks and will offer Emery the option of playing with two orthodox wingers in Pepe and Vasquez. He has a habit of finding some excellent passes and even maintain a calm and composed head, despite the situation. Lucas Vazquez has all the makings of a Premier League superstar, and if the Gunners can lure him to the Emirates this January, it would indeed be a massive coup by Unai Emery.
