According to The Sun, Chelsea are poised to make a move for Callum Wilson in the upcoming January transfer window. The Bournemouth striker has raised a lot of eyebrows with his consistent performances in the Premier League. As a result, he has attracted the interest of Frank Lampard.
In this article, however, we will talk about three players Bournemouth could target as replacements for Wilson in the event of his potential departure in January.
Vedat Muriqi
Vedat Muriqi has made quite a name for himself with his performances in the Turkish Super League this season. The forward, formerly a member of Caykur Rizespor, moved to Fenerbahce in the summer for a fee of just €3.5 million. He was brought in as a replacement for Roberto Soldado.
And the Kosovan has integrated into his new club very quickly. He has already netted five goals in nine matches, helping Fenerbahce pose a strong challenge to Alanyaspor for the top spot in the league table.
Boasting a tall 1.94m figure that gives him a considerable advantage in aerial and physical duels, Muriqi is a tailor-made fit for the athletic nature of the Premier League. He could be utilised as an ideal target man for a Bournemouth side, who are known for their ability to create chances from the flanks as well as set-pieces.
Shon Weissman
Just like Muriqi, Wolfsberger AC striker Shon Weissman has swiftly risen to prominence following his incredible performances in this new campaign. As a matter of fact, the Israeli forward has netted as many as 17 goals in just 15 matches in all competitions, 11 of which came in the Austrian Bundesliga.
Weissman’s performances in the Europa League, especially against Borussia Monchengladbach also raised a lot of eyebrows and suggested that he can also perform against big teams. Bournemouth, to that end, could be an ideal suitor for the ex-Maccabi Haifa number nine.
Unlike Muriqi, Weissman is not a tall striker. But, his excessive work-rate, coupled with his ability to sneak in behind the backline makes him a perfect addition to Eddie Howe’s tactical setup.
Yussuf Poulsen
RB Leipzig’s Yussuf Poulsen is perhaps a slightly unrealistic target for Bournemouth. But, given how much the Premier League has grown financially in the past couple of years, the Cherries are undoubtedly capable of pulling off a deal for the Dane.
Much like Weissman, Poulsen is known for his high work-rate in attack. But, the ex-Lyngby forward is also capable of winning aerial and physical duels in the final third while his aggression makes him a useful addition in the first line of press.
But most importantly and unlike the other two strikers on this list, Poulsen has considerable experience at the highest level of experience, having made almost 100 appearances in the German Bundesliga. Hence, signing him could turn out to be a smart piece of business from Bournemouth.
