According to a recent report by Claret and Hugh, West Ham United playmaker Manuel Lanzini has suffered an injury which could keep him sidelined for up to four weeks. The same source has also revealed that the Hammers midfielder sustained a knock on his foot while representing Argentina during the international break earlier this month.
However, Lanzini’s decision to play through the pain against Aston Villa on Monday night has backfired, and it seems like he will be out of action for quite some time now which will be a bitter pill to swallow for Manuel Pellegrini.
Lanzini’s Fruitful Spell At The London Stadium
The 26-year-old has made a bright start to this campaign after earning two assists in five appearances for the East London outfit so far. He is an influential member of Pellegrini’s midfield and has shown a lot of creativity and invention with his passes in the opposition half.
Since making a career-defining switch to the English capital from Al-Jazira in the summer of 2016, Lanzini has gone on to feature in 114 matches for West Ham, scoring 21 goals while grabbing 19 assists across all competitions. The South American sensation has also represented Argentina in five international matches and has found of the back of the net once for his homeland thus far.
What Does The Former Fluminense Midfield Ace Offer On The Pitch?
Lanzini boasts decent pace and is a brilliant dribbler with the ball from midfield. He can also link up play well with others and hardly loses possession for his team. The Argentina international has the vision to unlock any defence and can be a match-winner for his side when firing on all cylinders on the field.
Lanzini’s Latest Injury Setback: Big Blow For The Hammers?
Therefore, losing a player of Lanzini’s skillset to injury will be a massive blow for Pellegrini and his chances of securing a run of favourable results in the coming weeks. However, West Ham still has enough options in midfield to cope with the Argentine’s absence for the time being.
The Hammers have managed to grind out a 2-0 win over Manchester United which goes to show that they can perform well even when one of their star players is missing in action. Pellegrini would now hope that his players can continue their march up the league table and earn a top 6 spot at the end of this campaign.
