Leicester City entertained Newcastle United at the King Power Stadium earlier this evening hoping to continue their good form in the Premier League. The Foxes began the match on the front foot and took the lead courtesy of Ricardo Pereira’s brilliant strike in the 16th minute. The Magpies held firm after the goal but were down to 10-men when Isaac Hayden was sent off for a reckless challenge on Dennis Praet just before half-time.
Brendan Rodgers’ players began the second half with the same intensity as the first and went on to score four more times courtesy of a brace from Jamie Vardy, an unfortunate own goal from Paul Dummett and a strike from Wilfred Ndidi. The Premier League encounter finished with the home team claiming a 5-0 win against Steve Bruce’s men.
Let’s take a look at how each Leicester City player fared during the match against the Magpies.
GK: Kasper Schmeichel – 6/10
The Foxes goalie had a comfortable game in between the sticks as he was hardly tested during the game. Schmeichel performed his job well when called into action.
RB: Ricardo Pereira – 8/10
He opened the goal-scoring with a glorious strike in the first half. Pereira was a constant threat for the Newcastle defenders down the right flank.
CB: Jonny Evans – 6/10
The former Manchester United defender passed the ball accurately from the back and found it easy to cope with Joelinton’s threat.
CB: Caglar Söyüncü – 6.5/10
The Foxes centre-back was a commanding presence at the back and managed to keep a clean sheet in front of the home supporters.
LB: Benjamin Chilwell – 7/10
The English full-back was a brilliant outlet for the East Midlands outfit on the left-wing and put in a tireless shift during the game.
CDM: Wilfred Ndidi – 7/10
He was a dominant presence at the middle of the park and retained possession quite effectively for his side. Ndidi capped off his excellent performance with a goal in the dying embers of the contest.
RM: Ayoze Pérez – 6/10
He created a couple of decent opportunities against his former club. Perez managed to earn an assist when he set-up Pereira for the opening goal in the first half.
CM: Dennis Praet – 7/10
The Belgian midfield ace got lucky in the lead-up to Leicester’s third goal when his attempt deflected off Dummett into the Newcastle net. Praet put in an impressive display as a box to box midfielder which will please Rodgers.
CM: Youri Tielemans – 6.5/10
The Belgian rising star worked hard for his team and orchestrated some decent chances for his teammates in the final third.
LM: Harvey Barnes – 6/10
Barnes’ pace caused some problems for the Newcastle defenders. However, his impact on the field faded as the match went on, so Rodgers decided to replace him for Marc Albrighton close to the hour mark.
ST: Jamie Vardy – 9/10
The English striker scored two goals in the second half which crushed any hopes of an unlikely Newcastle comeback. He was a potent goal-threat throughout the game and was a joy to watch for the Leicester faithful.
Substitutes:
LM: Marc Albrighton – 7/10
The former Aston Villa talent set-up Vardy with an inch-perfect cross after coming on in the second half.
CM: Hamza Choudhury – 6/10
The Foxes youngster kept things ticking in midfield.
RM: Demarai Gray – N/A
He did not have enough time to influence the game.
