According to Calciomercato, as cited by Daily Mail, Tottenham Hotspur will face stiff competition from Juventus, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich in keeping hold of Troy Parrott. The young attacker has attracted the interest of a host of clubs across Europe with his performances in the English youth leagues.
Parrott is one of the most exciting youngsters in England
A product of Belvedere youth academy in Dublin, Parrott initially moved to Tottenham Hotspur in the summer of 2017. He was quickly promoted to the U18 level last summer after blistering performances in the lower youth levels.
Parrott continued to perform for the Spurs U18 team, notably scoring 14 goals in the Premier League U18 last season. He also netted three goals in the UEFA Youth League. The youngster’s performances led to him featuring in the reserve league, where he scored two goals in ten matches.
The 17-year-old is currently a registered member of the Spurs U18 but has featured for the reserve team this season, scoring a brace in the first game against Manchester City U23.
What is he all about?
A centre-forward by trade, Parrott is a modern-day attacker, who is equipped with excellent close control. He loves to take on defenders and can easily nestle through tight spaces.
When operating as a number nine, the 17-year-old often likes to track back and link-up with teammates before making driving runs into the heart of the opposing backline. Additionally, he can shield the ball pretty well, despite his lean figure.
But most importantly, Parrott is always on the lookout for that defence threading through pass in behind the backline. It is coupled with his technical skills that make the youngster one of the most exciting attackers at Tottenham.
Why Spurs should keep hold of Parrott
With his performances in the youth competitions, Parrott has shown that he is capable of playing at a higher level of football. Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino already has a reputation for nurturing young talents. If he can help this Irishman slowly integrate to professional football, it would likely solve the club’s problem of having a lack of reliable options in the number nine position.
Indeed, Harry Kane is the only centre-forward Tottenham currently have following the departure of Fernando Llorente. Parrott, in that regard, can be groomed into a potential long-term replacement for the English international.
