According to TyC Sports, as cited by TeamTalk, Mauricio Pochettino has admitted that coaching the Argentine national side is his dream job. “The dream is always to be able to train the Argentine national team one day, as an Argentine that is indisputable, your country, your shirt, your flag… That is always a priority.”, the Tottenham Hotspur manager was quoted as saying.
Pochettino’s departure would no doubt be a big blow for Spurs. And in this article, we will discuss three potential replacements the Premier League giants could pursue.
Massimiliano Allegri
Massimiliano Allegri was the man behind Juventus’ unrivalled dominance in Italian football in recent years. He also helped the Bianconeri gradually become a powerhouse in world football before leaving the club at the end of last season. Former Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri replaced him.
Nonetheless, Allegri is a stubborn coach, who is known for his side’s defensive stability. He is also known for his ambition and the way he strives for perfection, which is what really drove Juventus to become one of the strongest clubs in Europe.
Allegri has the experience as well and should fit in rather well at Tottenham Hotspur.
Laurent Blanc
Laurent Blanc currently has the best statistics of any available managers in the world. This is mainly because his primary failure was not to win the UEFA Champions League with Paris Saint-Germain, ultimately leaving the club in 2016.
Blanc hasn’t managed any other club since, but Tottenham could be an ideal destination for him to restart his managerial career. The Frenchman is known for his sophisticated tactics and attention to small details that could help Spurs become more productive, especially against big clubs.
And much like Pochettino, the ex-PSG manager also likes his team to play efficient football, with fullbacks playing a key role. Hence, Blanc could be a good fit for the Lilywhites.
Julian Nagelsmann
The only coach on this list who is not a free agent, Julian Nagelsmann is arguably the most talented trainer in Europe. The 32-year-old transformed a baffled squadron to one of the strongest teams in the Bundesliga, during his time with TSG Hoffenheim. As a result, he moved to RB Leipzig this summer and has been doing really well.
What he lacks in experience, Nagelsmann makes up for it with his incredible tactical knowledge. Unlike most other coaches in Europe, the young RB Leipzig boss cares a lot about statistics and modern metrics that play a crucial role in his approach against different oppositions.
Nagelsmann is easily one of the most tactically astute coaches in Europe. And given the one-dimensional style of football in the Premier League, the 32-year-old could thrive here, especially with a squad as strong as Tottenham Hotspur.
