According to a recent report by Football.London, Chelsea forward Michy Batshuayi is eager to stay and fight for his place at Stamford Bridge this season. The Belgian striker posted an update on Twitter which squashed all the rumours linking him with a move to Anderlecht before the transfer deadline later tonight.
Batshuayi’s Lack Of Game Time At West London This Season
The 25-year-old has managed to make one substitute’s appearance for the Pensioners in the Premier League this season. He has seen only six minutes of playing time out of a possible 360 minutes so far in the English top-flight, which is a cause for concern.
Batshuayi is in dire need of a change of scenery if he wants to reignite his career in European football. He has struggled to get a regular run of games and is currently Frank Lampard’s third-choice striker at Chelsea.
Since joining the Pensioners from Olympique Marseille in the summer of 2016, the Belgian centre-forward has scored 19 goals and grabbed four assists in 54 matches thus far. He has also earned 26 international caps for Belgium and has registered 13 goals for his nation in the process.
What Does The Belgian Talent Add To Lampard’s Team?
Batshuayi has a decent goal-scoring record for both his club and country. However, the fact remains that the Belgian forward is currently behind the likes of Tammy Abraham and Olivier Giroud in the pecking order at Stamford Bridge. He can be a consistent goal-scorer in the English top-flight if he is playing with confidence on the field.
The Belgian international is moderately paced and can make some penetrative runs in the opposition half. Batshuayi is also a proven finisher in front of the opposing goal but can sometimes be a bit selfish with his decision making under high-pressure situations.
Does Batshuayi Have A Future At Stamford Bridge?
The ex-Crystal Palace striker is good enough to earn a regular first-team place under Lampard’s tutelage but would need to prove his worth in the training ground first. On his day, he can be a match-winner off the Chelsea bench as well. The Belgian forward’s decision to stay and fight for the right to represent the UEFA Europa League champions might turn out to be a good move for both parties. Batshuayi can still have a bright future at the West London club if he can find a way to be consistent while leading the line for Lampard’s men this term.
