Real Madrid have started their season with below-average performances, and this has resulted in them only acquiring 5 points in three matches.
Massive credit to Los Blancos’ mediocre start to the season can be attributed to the long list of players in the treatment room. The list began way before the season started and has only grown as the season has progressed. The International Break has done no good to Zinedine Zidane’s men with Luka Jovic reportedly picking up an injury in Serbia’s loss to Portugal.
Los Blancos currently have five players nursing injuries, and at least three of them would regularly start games across all competitions. The seriousness of the situation can be understood with the fact that Marco Asensio’s injury during pre-season compelled Real Madrid not to sell Gareth Bale and James Rodriguez.
The 4th Official lists out Real Madrid’s current squad players at the sick-bay along with their estimated time of return to the team.
Eden Hazard
Hazard was Real Madrid’s biggest summer signing arriving for a fee in the region of €100 million. The player is yet to make his competitive debut for Los Blancos after picking up a hamstring injury just prior to the start of the season. The player is meant to be back in action post the completion of the international break.
Marco Asensio
One of the biggest let-downs for Real Madrid in the injury list is Marco Asensio. The former Espanyol attacker ruptured his cruciate ligament in pre-season and will not be returning to the fold until March next year. Marco Asensio’s injury prompted Zidane & Co. not to sell Gareth Bale and James Rodriguez.
Isco
Isco spent a large chunk of last season out on the sidelines with injury problems. The player has only seemed a shadow of himself since returning from a prolonged injury spell and has attracted criticism from the extremely demanding Spanish press.
Isco recently picked up an injury in his biceps muscle and is most likely to return by the end of this month.
Brahim Diaz
Brahim is another Real Madrid player nursing an injury to his hamstring. The Spaniard has been frequently pictured with Hazard as the two recover and gear up to return to the Real Madrid squad.
James Rodriguez
James played an impressive 60 minutes of football at the Santiago Bernabeu against Real Valladolid before injuring his calf on Matchday 2. The player is supposed to make his return to the side before Real Madrid face Levante at home this weekend.
Luka Jovic
One of the latest additions to the list is Luka Jovic who injured himself during Serbia’s loss to Portugal. The player’s exact cause of injury is unspecified along with his due date of return to the squad. The player was ruled out of Serbia’s next fixture against Luxembourg where they ran out 3-1 winners.
