Manchester United faced off against Leicester City at Old Trafford earlier today hoping to claim maximum points in front of their home supporters. The Red Devils made a bright start to the game and took the lead through Marcus Rashford’s penalty in the 8th minute. However, the Foxes responded well as they created some decent chances to equalise but lacked the finishing touch in the offensive end of the field.
Both teams fought tooth and nail in the second half but couldn’t add to the goal tally as the match finished with a final scoreline of 1-0 in favour of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men.
Let’s take a look at how each Man United player fared during the encounter against the Foxes.
GK: David De Gea – 7/10
The Spanish keeper returned to form and made some crucial stops at the back for the Red Devils. He deserved to keep a clean sheet today after making a couple of world-class saves during the game.
RB: Aaron Wan-Bissaka – 6/10
The former Crystal Palace talent was defensively solid but failed to provide too much support going forward.
CB: Victor Lindelöf – 6/10
He passed the ball well but made some poor errors of judgement when defending inside his own half.
CB: Harry Maguire – 6/10
The English centre-back made a couple of bad mistakes at the back, but he put in a commanding display in the second half to secure another shut-out at Old Trafford.
LB: Ashley Young – 5.5/10
The English talent made a bright start to the game but was average in the second half.
CM: Scott McTominay – 6.5/10
The Man United youngster put in another impressive display at the heart of Solskjaer’s midfield.
CM: Nemanja Matic – 5/10
The Serbia international was guilty of slowing the tempo down in midfield and didn’t have the pace to provide adequate protection to his backline when defending the Leicester counter-attacks.
RM: Andreas Pereira – 6.5/10
The Red Devils rising star worked his socks off down the right flank and had the technique to cause a few problems for the Leicester defenders.
CAM: Juan Mata – 5/10
The Spaniard linked up play with others around him but lacked the creativity to unlock Brendan Rodgers’ defence.
LM: Daniel James – 6/10
The in-form Welsh winger showed a few glimpses of what he is capable of during the game. However, he failed to keep his goalscoring run going in the Premier League.
ST: Marcus Rashford – 7.5/10
The English striker kept his composure under pressure to convert a crucial penalty in the 8th minute, which ended up making the difference in the contest. He was unfortunate not to have scored another when his brilliant free-kick attempt saw the ball rattle the crossbar before going out of play.
Substitutes:
CM: Fred – 6.5/10
The Brazilian midfielder passed the ball well and put in a nice, little cameo off the Man United bench.
CM: Tahith Chong – 7/10
The Dutch youngster enjoyed his time on the field as he made some penetrative runs in the Foxes half.
CB: Axel Tuanzebe – N/A
He did not have enough time to make an impact.
