Wolverhampton Wanderers will be desperate to secure their first win of the campaign when they host Chelsea at the Molineux on Saturday. The Wolves have had a rough season so far, being one of only two teams that are yet to register a single victory. And things won’t be any easier against a Chelsea side, who will be itching to win after a disappointing draw with Sheffield United.
Here is how Nuno Espirito Santo’s men may line-up against the Blues this weekend.
Formation: 3-5-2
Defence
Willy Boly is facing a suspension after being sent off at the last minute in the defeat to Everton in the last game. Romain Saiss is the prime alternative, but the Moroccan is a doubt due to a knock. Therefore, we expect the young Jesus Vallejo to receive his first start in the Premier League this weekend.
Vallejo will be partnered by the ever-present figure of Conor Coady and Ryan Bennett. These two defenders haven’t been able to replicate their performance from last season, having already conceded five goals this campaign. They will be keen to preserve a clean sheet in this fixture.
Rui Patricio, meanwhile, is a guaranteed starter in goal, ahead of John Ruddy. The Portuguese international will be looking for his second clean sheet of the campaign, though he needs to remain sharp against the Chelsea attack.
Midfield
Matt Doherty is unlikely to feature in this encounter, after missing out the game against Everton. His return remains unknown as of yet. But, one thing is for certain – Adama Traore is set to receive yet another start at right wing-back.
The 23-year-old will look to continue his excellent run of form in this new role. As for Jonny Castro, he is a guaranteed starter on the opposite flank, ahead of Ruben Vinagre.
Joao Moutinho could return to the starting eleven after being demoted to the bench against Everton. He will replace Saiss and will be partnered by Leander Dendoncker and Ruben Neves in central midfield. Moutinho’s experience could be crucial, especially in neutralising the influence of Jorginho in the middle.
Attack
The Wolves attack will be spearheaded by none other than Raul Jimenez. The Mexican international has scored two of the club’s four goals this season. And it only means that his partner in crime, Diogo Jota, will need to be more productive in front of goal. Patrick Cutrone is also an exciting option for Nuno.
