Rangers hosted Aberdeen at Ibrox today and emerged 5-0 victorious. With Celtic dropping points earlier, Gerrard’s men have now moved just one point behind their arch-rivals.
The home team clearly looked the better side as Aberdeen were well off the pace during the game. Morelos was brought down by Vyner in the box just before the 20th minute, and Tavernier converted from the spot. The Colombian was soon involved as his attempt was cleared off the line. Rangers added comfort to their lead as Tavernier found Stewart who converted from close quarters to make it 2-0. Stewart, who was a slightly surprising pick, had an impressive game as he played as the attacking midfielder.
Rangers started enjoying their game in the second 45 and Morelos finally got his goal when he headed the ball home from Barisic’s cross. Later on, Stewart was brought down in the box and Tavernier scored his second penalty of the game. Defoe then joined the act late on in the game and scored the fifth through a smart lob to make it a convincing 5-0 win. Aberdeen were extremely poor as the Gers had 27 attempts on goal to their 4.
Here is how Gerrard’s men fared in a dominating display against Aberdeen.
Allan McGregor 6
Hardly had to anything to do in goal. It was a comfortable game for the veteran.
Nikola Katic 6.5
Made a poor back pass to McGregor. Looked shaky on occasions to begin with, but settled in quickly and cruised through the game after that.
Connor Goldson 7
Saw out the clean sheet but was hardly troubled in the first 45. Organised the backline well.
Borna Barisic 7.5
Assisted the third goal with a pinpoint cross. Spent most of the time in the opposition half and played a commanding role in attack.
James Tavernier 8
Has missed a few penalties of late but scored the opener and Rangers never looked back after that. Added another goal late on from the spot. Helped his side in attack and put in some decent crosses.
Steven Davis 8.5
Turned back the clock once again as he orchestrated the midfield like a master. Sprayed the ball for fun and his quick release meant that Aberdeen were hardly able to close him down.
Scott Arfield 7
Played in a deeper role and showcased his versatility. His energy and pressing was too much for the Dons to handle. Was comfortable in possession and was his usual tenacious self.
Greg Stewart 8
Scored one but could have got more as he hit the post once. Linked up play well and looked lively in possession. Has made his case to start in the future after this display.
Ryan Jack 8
Has been Mr. consistent for Gerrard so far and today was nothing different. Worked his socks off, drove the ball with intensity and his passing was accurate. Did everything that Gerrard could need from a midfielder.
Sheyi Ojo 6
Had a slightly quiet game as he wasn’t able to himself involved in the game. Steady but unspectacular performance from the Liverpool loanee.
Alfredo Morelos 9
Brilliant centre-forward play from the Colombian. His movement, energy and intensity were too good for the Aberdeen defenders to control. Looked head and shoulders above them. Won the first penalty and got his mandatory goal as well through a header.

Jermain Defoe 7
Got his name on the score sheet with a clever finish.

Made a come back from injury and provided fresh legs and pace after coming on.
