According to a recent report by ESPN (via Manchester Evening News), Manchester United are interested in securing the signature of Callum Wilson from AFC Bournemouth. The same source has revealed that the Red Devils boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has put the English striker’s name on his transfer wish-list among a whole host of other homegrown players like James Maddison and Jadon Sancho.
Wilson’s Recent Emergence In English Football
Wilson made a name for himself at the Vitality Stadium last season when he scored 14 goals in the Premier League to help the Cherries avoid relegation and secure a 14th placed finish in the league standings. The 27-year-old has also managed to make a decent start to this campaign after finding the back of the net three times while creating one assist in five matches for Bournemouth in the English top-flight.
The Coventry-born striker is currently playing at his prime which could make him an excellent addition to the Man United frontline if Solskjaer can find a way to lure him to Old Trafford when the transfer window reopens in January.
Wilson has also represented England in three international matches and has registered one goal for his country thus far.
What Are The English Striker’s Best Attributes?
Wilson boasts blistering pace and is not afraid to use his speed to make some well-timed runs behind the opposition defence. He has proven his worth in the top tier of England and is capable of producing a few moments of magic when his team need him the most. The English frontman can also hold the ball up well to bring others into play as evidenced by his tally of ten assists for the Cherries in the 2018-19 Premier League season.
Is Wilson The Right Choice For The Red Devils?
A centre-forward of Wilson’s attacking prowess will undeniably improve Solskjaer’s squad depth at the Theatre of Dreams. Man United have still not replaced Romelu Lukaku after the Belgian striker decided to join Inter Milan earlier this summer. Maybe, Wilson could be an ideal replacement for him if the Red Devils can land him in the future.
The English frontman will not only bolster Solskjaer’s attacking options significantly but will also provide more competition for Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial for a starting berth at Old Trafford.
