In a recent interview mentioned by the Daily Mirror, Manchester United centre-back Marcos Rojo has admitted his desire to leave if things do not fall in place for him in the coming months and said,
“I had the possibility of Everton, but by decisions of the club or the manager, it wasn’t possible.
“Now I have to fight until December and if it doesn’t work out, I will try to leave.
“I talked to Scaloni, he told me that he was happy because in the pre-season I had played many games, that I looked good and that’s why he called me, but that I had to play.
“The qualifiers and the Copa America are coming and I want to be part of that. I don’t want to be out again, I want to exhaust all the possibilities and compete to be here.”
It is clearly evident from Rojo’s words that he is desperate to make a comeback and prove his worth to the Red Devils supporters following an injury-ravaged and underwhelming spell at Old Trafford thus far. Solskjaer decided to keep the Argentine defender at the club, but it seems like it might not be for long.
Should Rojo Part Ways With The Red Devils In January?
Rojo can benefit from a change of scenery when the transfer window opens in January as it could allow him to reignite his football career. Furthermore, he would be able to play for Argentina in the upcoming qualifiers and the 2020 Copa America, which is set to take place in Colombia and Argentina next summer.
Rojo needs to find a way to earn regular first-team opportunities as soon as possible so that he can regain his confidence and put in a consistent run of performances at the club level. With Man United struggling to keep clean sheets of late under Solskjaer’s tutelage, maybe Rojo might be given a chance to shine in the Premier League.
Since sealing a move from Sporting CP in the summer of 2014, the 29-year-old has gone on to make 113 appearances for Man United, scoring two goals while grabbing four assists across all competitions. Rojo is also vastly experienced at the international level, having represented his nation in 59 matches while scoring two goals for them in the process.
Rojo’s Eagerness To Leave: Another Problem For Man United?
Solskjaer will not be too pleased by the Argentine’s recent comments as the Norwegian head coach decided to keep him at the Theatre of Dreams this summer with the hope that the player can help the Red Devils compete in both domestic cup competitions this term. With Paul Pogba’s long-term future still uncertain at Old Trafford, the last thing Solskjaer would have wanted is to hear about one of his injury-prone players looking for a move when Man United are currently short of options in the centre-back department.
