According to journalist Vene Casagrande, Manchester City have tabled a €10m offer to sign Flamengo attacker Lincoln. It is believed that the Citizens have been in contact with the player’s agent and are willing to splash out some cash in order to acquire 80% of his rights. Flamengo, however, have appeared reluctant to let go of their star player.
Lincoln’s rise to prominence at Flamengo
Lincoln belongs to the pool of young and talented Brazilian youngsters coming through the ranks in the domestic league. He was a product of Flamengo’s youth academy, and after impressing in the youth leagues, he was promoted to the senior side at the start of 2017, aged only 16.
The youngster made his professional debut with Flamengo in November 2017, appearing as a substitute during a 3-0 win over Corinthians. Since then, Lincoln has made 26 competitive appearances for the Brazilian outfit, 20 of them have come in the domestic league.
However, Lincoln hasn’t improved a lot, of late and has scored only one goal in 26 matches for Flamengo. His record has been quite mediocre for a centre-forward, even though he was unlucky with the lack of game-time.
What can he bring to the table?
Lincoln’s style of play can be compared to Manchester City superstar Sergio Aguero. A modern-day centre-forward, who loves to track back and pick the ball up from midfield. He is blessed with immense quality on the ball and is capable of using his body movement to get past the opposing defenders.
Most importantly, the 18-year-old has an eye for that defence-splitting through ball, which is a unique asset for any number nine. Although he is not as prolific as one would like, Lincoln can certainly improve on that front, in the future.
Is Lincoln a good target for Manchester City?
As iterated earlier, Lincoln hasn’t shown much improvement at Flamengo recently, which is a quite worrying sign, especially given the fact that he is yet to get a taste of Premier League football.
If we take that into consideration, it would perhaps be a wiser decision for Manchester City to monitor Lincoln’s progress this season before making any further move. Alternatively, the Citizens could sign him and loan him out to gain more top-level experience.
