According to a recent report by the Daily Mirror, Manchester United star Paul Pogba will not consider signing a new, long-term contract at Old Trafford so that he can make his dream switch to Real Madrid. The same source has also mentioned that the Frenchman is committed to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s short-term cause but believes his future lies at the Spanish capital.
Pogba’s Average Start To The New English Top-Flight Season
Pogba has made a mediocre start to the 2019-20 Premier League campaign. One might argue that his head was at Real Madrid due to the European transfer window being open, so he wasn’t at his 100% over the past few weeks.
The 26-year-old has made four appearances for the Red Devils this term and has created two assists in the Premier League thus far. However, Pogba was also guilty of missing a crucial penalty which led to Man United dropping two crucial points away at Wolves last month.
The former Juventus midfield ace managed to win the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia with Didier Deschamps’ French national team last summer. He has represented his country in 67 international matches and has scored ten goals for them in the process.
What Does The France International Offer On The Pitch?
Pogba is an exceptional midfielder as he has the pace, power and athleticism to score goals consistently from the centre of the park. He can also pick out a final pass in the offensive end of the field and tends to strike the ball with power and precision with his attempts from long range. However, the Frenchman’s defensive work-rate is low, which makes him a liability on the field as he can be a passenger at times without the ball.
Pogba’s Reluctance To Pen New Deal: Big Blow For The Red Devils?
Not being able to retain Pogba for the long-run will be a massive blow for the Red Devils and their chances of establishing long-term success at Old Trafford. Solskjaer would have to identify a suitable replacement soon so that he can ease the French talent out of the club and get as much compensation for him as possible.
Man United would be better off relying on a player who will be committed to the cause at the Theatre of Dreams for the long-haul. Furthermore, Pogba’s inconsistent form on the pitch has also not helped his cause at Old Trafford.
