Liverpool have confirmed on their official website that their teenage striker Paul Glatzel has put pen to paper on a new, long-term contract at Anfield. In a recent interview with the club’s official website, the German striker expressed his delight and said, “It’s a great feeling obviously.
“I’ve been at the club for so long and I just want to keep going and see where it takes me. Hopefully I can crack on now and keep going. The contract makes it easier.”
Glatzel’s Incredible Rise At Merseyside
Glatzel is highly rated at Merseyside as evidenced by his involvement with Jurgen Klopp’s senior team during pre-season earlier this summer. The 18-year-old managed to net 28 goals for the Reds Under-18 side last season. However, he suffered a serious knee injury against Tranmere Rovers in a pre-season game back in July which has derailed his progress at Melwood.
The Liverpool-born talent represented England at the Under-15 and Under-16 levels before going on to play for Germany’s U-18s. He has incredible potential and could be a future star in English football if he can improve his game in the coming years.
What Does The Future Hold For The German Youngster At Anfield?
Glatzel has been a natural goal-scorer for Liverpool’s academy side, but he is yet to prove his worth at the senior level. However, Klopp’s decision to tie him up on a new contract suggests that the Reds rate the English youngster quite highly as he has all the makings required to become a prolific Premier League centre-forward someday.
However, the jury is still out on whether Glatzel can continue to be a consistent goal-scorer for the Liverpool U-18s when he returns from his latest injury setback. If he can find a way to prove his worth to Klopp, then he should get a chance to shine for the club’s senior side.
Is Glatzel A Star In The Making?
The German head coach has shown in the past that he is willing to play some of his younger players if they are good enough to feature for the Reds at the highest level. The recent emergence of Trent Alexander-Arnold and Rhian Brewster should serve as proof that Glatzel has a very bright future at Anfield if he can come back stronger than ever from his knee injury this season. The German teenager is a star in the making and has what it takes to be a success story in the top tier of England someday.
