The transfer window has finally ended, and Rangers have had another fruitful last two months. They brought in a healthy number of players once again, and most of them have started the season well helping Rangers claim a spot in the Europa League main draws for another season. Their start to the Premiership season was also an impressive one.
However, they have been dented after suffering a home loss to Celtic right before the international break. Gerrard though managed to pull a rabbit out of the hat to uplift the fans’ mood as the Bears managed to bring in Ryan Kent on the last day of the transfer window permanently.
Rangers need to bring consistency to their game if they want to challenge Celtic on all the fronts. Even though the Hoops played with a makeshift backline, they did well defensively against Rangers. And that is what title-winning teams are made of as they find solutions even when they aren’t in the best of situations.
Here is what Gerrard’s best eleven could look like with all new signings.
Formation (4-3-3)
Defence
Allan McGregor will be an obvious pick in goal even though Wes Foderingham is a decent option. Nikola Katic has started the season well, and we feel that he has looked better than even Connor Goldson who is seen as the more established player in the starting eleven.
Gerrard spent big money to land Filip Helander, and he would definitely have some say in that backline. However, it’s tough to gauge how he would go about his business, so we are sticking with Katic and Goldson partnership.
Borna Barisic has shown signs of improvements, and if he can play to the best of his abilities consistently, then he will get the nod ahead of Jon Flanagan at left-back. James Tavernier is an obvious pick to start at right-back.
Midfield
Steven Davis has performed well so far this season, and he will surely start in Gerrard’s best team. Ryan Jack too has become consistent, and he will play in a slightly advanced role in midfield. Joe Aribo can change the game with his runs and dribbling skills, but he needs to bring in more consistency to his game. He should get the nod over Glen Kamara who has looked average so far in the new season.
Attack
On the left, Jordan Jones and Sheyi Ojo might have thought that its a battle between them for the starting spot but with Ryan Kent’s signing, there is only one man who will start there.
Scott Arfield is likely to play down the right, but he will often drift inside in central areas and support the attack almost as an attacking midfielder instead of a wide player. Alfredo Morelos should be an obvious pick in Rangers’ best team over Defoe.
