Tottenham Hotspur will be desperate to get back to winning ways as they face Colchester in the third round of the EFL Cup on Tuesday. The Lilywhites are coming on the back of a streak of two winless games. They recently lost to Leicester City in their last match and securing a win could be crucial as Mauricio Pochettino looks to get their season back on track. Here is how the Lilywhites could lineup against Colchester this midweek. Here is our predicted 4-2-3-1 Tottenham Hotspur lineup Vs Colchester.
Predicted 4-2-3-1 Tottenham Hotspur Lineup Vs Colchester
Defence
Pochettino is expected to make a lot of changes to the squad that lost 2-1 to Leicester City on the weekend. Paulo Gazzaniga will retain his place in between the sticks. The Argentine has done well to replace his French counterpart so far.
Kyle Walker-Peters will finally make his return to the starting lineup after missing quite a few matches. The young defender will replace Serge Aurier at right-back. Danny Rose, meanwhile, will make way for Ben Davies on the opposite flank. Ryan Sessegnon is a doubt for this game and Pochettino will have no other options in the fullback department if he misses out.
Jan Vertonghen will be the only defender to retain his place in the backline, mainly due to Juan Foyth still facing fitness problems. The veteran defender will be partnered by Davinson Sanchez, who will return to the side, at the expense of Toby Alderweireld.
Midfield
Pochettino will likely switch to a more simplistic 4-2-3-1 setup given the nature of the opponent. Eric Dier is poised to make his first appearance of the campaign. The English international hasn’t enjoyed a good year. But, will look to redeem himself during the remainder of this campaign.
Dier will form the double-pivot alongside Oliver Skipp, who will get the nod ahead of Victor Wanyama, who clearly doesn’t have a future at the club. Both Skipp and Dier will have a point to prove, though they might end up rivalling each other for a place in the first-team in the future.
Attack
Christian Eriksen and Harry Kane are expected to start this midweek. Kane started the Leicester City game while Eriksen had to settle for a place on the bench.
The Dane will be operating as a wide playmaker, meaning Dele Alli will come back into the team. These two, alongside Lucas Moura, will form the creative trio, just behind the leading striker Kane.
