Liverpool will travel to the San Paolo Stadium to face off against Napoli on Tuesday night hoping to pick up maximum points from their first group-stage game of this UEFA Champions League campaign. The Reds will come into this game at the back of an impressive 3-1 win over Newcastle United at Anfield last Saturday. However, Carlo Ancelotti’s men could be their toughest test yet after the Italians claimed an impressive 2-0 victory versus Sampdoria in the Serie A.
Jurgen Klopp is expected to stick with his favoured 4-3-3 formation and might opt to make three changes to his side for this European clash.
4-3-3 Liverpool Predicted Lineup To Face Napoli
Defence
Adrian will lineup in goal for the Reds despite failing to keep a clean sheet against the Magpies on Saturday. Virgil Van Dijk and Joel Matip might continue their defensive partnership at the heart of Klopp’s backline as they look to keep the Napoli attackers at bay in midweek. Both defenders have formed a solid partnership at the back this season even though they have kept just one clean sheet so far this.
Joe Gomez could get the nod to start at right-back ahead of Trent Alexander-Arnold as he is a better defender inside his own half. Andrew Robertson will resume his duties on the other side in the left-back position.
The Liverpool backline will have to find a way to cope with the threats of Napoli’s Dries Mertens and Hirving Lozano if they are to come away with a shut-out from this encounter away at Naples.
Midfield
The Reds midfield might be comprised of Jordan Henderson, Fabinho and Georginio Wijnaldum as they seem to be Klopp’s strongest options at the centre of the park. Henderson was rested against Newcastle, so he should be a nailed-on starter for the Merseyside club on Tuesday night.
Both James Milner and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain will have to settle for a place on Klopp’s bench and might get a chance to feature in this European contest if needed.
Attack
The fabulous front three of Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah will once again operate together up top. All three players are in a rich vein of form of late and so we can expect them to do most of the damage in the Napoli half.
Xherdan Shaqiri and Rhian Brewster should be available on the Liverpool bench and might get an opportunity to impress if Klopp calls upon their services.
