Newcastle United travelled to the King Power Stadium to clash heads with Leicester City earlier this evening looking to cause an upset on the road. The Foxes utterly dominated the Magpies in the first half. Steve Bruce’s men conceded their first goal in the 16th minute when Ricardo Pereira scored with a stunning strike. Isaac Hayden was given his marching orders just before half-time, which made life more difficult for the Tyneside outfit.
The second half was more of the same with the East Midlands club scoring four more times via a brace from Jamie Vardy, an own goal from Paul Dummett and a goal from Wilfried Ndidi. The contest ended with the Foxes emerging victorious with a 5-0 scoreline after the full-time whistle.
Let’s take a look at how each Newcastle player performed during the clash against the Foxes.
GK: Martin Dubravka – 4/10
He could have done better for Vardy’s second goal. The Foxes ended up putting five goals past the Newcastle keeper, which will be quite demoralising for him.
RB: Emil Krafth – 3/10
The Magpies full-back saw plenty of the ball but couldn’t do much with it. He was nervy at the back as well when trying to cope with the pace of Harvey Barnes.
CB: Jamaal Lascelles – 4/10
The English centre-back was solid in the first half but got exposed by the Leicester attackers in the second. It was a day to forget for Lascelles at the back.
CB: Fabian Schär – 5.5/10
He made some vital interceptions for his team, but the fact remains that the Foxes managed to score five goals on the day. Schar will be hoping for better days in a Newcastle shirt.
LB: Paul Dummett – 3/10
Dummett’s nightmare display in defence was summed up by his own goal in the second half. He was defensively vulnerable and failed to make an impact in the Foxes half.
CM: Isaac Hayden – 2/10
Hayden let his teammates down by getting sent off in the first half for a rash challenge on Dennis Praet. He needs a lot of reflecting to do.
CM: Sean Longstaff – 6/10
Even though his teammates failed to recover after going down to 10-men, Longstaff thrived under the pressure and put in a tireless display at the centre of the park. He was also responsible for making some vital interceptions for his side in midfield.
RM: Miguel Almirón – 4/10
The South American sensation was a threat on the counter in the first half. However, he didn’t do enough going forward in the second.
CAM: Yoshinori Muto – 4/10
The Japanese talent squandered an excellent chance to score. He had to be replaced just after Hayden was sent off in the 43rd minute due to tactical reasons.
LM: Christian Atsu – 3/10
He didn’t provide enough defensive cover and struggled to keep up with Pereira’s pace down the wide positions. Atsu failed to offer anything meaningful going forward.
ST: Joelinton – 3/10
The Newcastle centre-forward found himself isolated and didn’t manage to get a shot at goal during his time on the pitch. He was rightfully subbed at the hour mark.
Substitutes:
CM: Ki-Sung Yeung – 3/10
The South Korean midfield ace didn’t offer much on the field after coming off the bench to replace Muto.
ST: Andy Carroll – 5/10
The English striker looked a bit off pace and failed to cause too many problems for the Leicester defenders.
RB: DeAndre Yedlin – 4/10
He got a few minutes under his belt but was mostly a passenger on the pitch.
