According to a recent report by Calciomercato (translated by the Liverpool Echo), Everton are keeping tabs on PSV Eindhoven centre-forward Donyell Malen but will face stiff competition from Tottenham Hotspur and AC Milan in pursuit of the Dutch Eredivisie rising star.
The Recent Emergence Of Donyell Malen In European Football
Malen is a product of AFC Ajax’s prestigious academy. The Wieringen-born prospect decided to make a switch to Arsenal as a teenager during the summer transfer period of 2015. However, things did not work out for him at North London, and so, he was sold to PSV back in 2017. Since sealing a return to his homeland, the 20-year-old has found a way to be a prolific goal-scorer in the Dutch top-flight.
Malen has enjoyed an excellent start to this campaign after he put in some eye-catching performances under Mark van Bommel’s tutelage at the Philips Stadium. He has featured in 14 matches for the Eredivisie giants this term, netting 11 goals while creating four assists across all competitions.
At such a young age, the talented frontman has already managed to make two international appearances for the Netherlands national team and has scored one goal for his country in the process.
What Will The Dutch Sensation Add To Marco Silva’s Team?
Malen boasts electric pace and can make some well-timed runs behind the opposition backline. He is also an ideal target man as he can hold the ball up to let others into play in the final third. The Dutch wonderkid does not shy away from testing the opposition keeper when an opportunity presents itself. He is a prolific goal-scorer who has the potential to become a world-class player in his position someday.
The acquisition of a talented goal-getter like Malen will undoubtedly add more goals to the Toffees frontline at Goodison Park. Marco Silva’s men have made a poor start to this campaign as they have struggled to score enough goals going forward.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Moise Kean, Cenk Tosun and Oumar Niasse have all failed to prove their worth for the Merseyside outfit this season. Thus it makes a lot of sense for Everton to recruit Malen in the future as he could solve some of their offensive problems. However, one can argue whether the Dutch starlet has what it takes to cope with the physical nature of Premier League football.
