In a recent interview with RMC Sport’s Breaking Foot (translated by the Metro), Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud hinted that he plans to move to the Major League Soccer after his career at Stamford Bridge comes to an end. The French striker dropped some hints on his future plans with RMC Sport’s Breaking Foot and said,
‘The MLS for my family, my children who speak English, it’s interesting.
‘In a year? In two years? I do not know when. ‘But of course, after that I will be open to a final challenge.’
Giroud’s Fruitful Spell With The Pensioners
Giroud has only made four appearances for the Pensioners this season and has lost his first-team place to Tammy Abraham. He managed to score against Liverpool in the UEFA Super Cup final last month, but it was not enough for his team to emerge victorious on the night.
Since his move from Arsenal at the start of last year, Giroud has gone on to score some vital goals for the West London giants across all competitions. The 32-year-old is an experienced forward who has already proven his worth in the English top-flight.
Frank Lampard should look to get every ounce out of Giroud before he lets the Frenchman leave in the coming years. The 2018 FIFA World Cup winner performs at his best during the high-profile encounters as evidenced by his goal against the Reds in the UEFA Super Cup final away at Istanbul.
Giroud has already won the UEFA Europa League with Chelsea last season. He has also earned 91 international caps for the French national side while registering 35 goals for them in various tournaments. He is an exceptional frontman due to his ability to score goals consistently at the highest level. However, father time has caught up with him, which explains why he has slowed down and lost a yard of pace from his game over the past couple of seasons.
Should Lampard Allow Giroud To Leave At The End Of This Campaign?
The France international will benefit from a move to the Major League Soccer once his Chelsea career is over. He will be able to earn the big bucks as well as experience playing football in another country where English is the primary spoken language. Lampard should not stand in his way as Giroud has been a top professional since arriving at West London last year.
The Frenchman deserves to go out of English football on his own terms. However, the Pensioners should still consider keeping him at the club until he loses his goal-scoring touch. At the moment, they only have Abraham and Michy Batshuayi as their other senior strikers.
