Celtic are doing well on the pitch, but they have suffered some major injury crisis recently. Kristoffer Ajer, Jozo Simunovic and Nir Bitton are currently out with injury. Now the latest report from the Scottish Sun conveys that winger Marian Shved has been sent back from Ukraine’s national camp as he is currently down with an ankle injury.
Shved’s current situation at Celtic
A statement read: “Unfortunately, Marian Shved has returned to his club after suffering an ankle injury and will not travel to Lithuania.”
Shved might not have made much impact in the senior team, but he is being seen as a massive talent after agreeing on a pre-season deal in January to move to Glasgow. Last month Lennon indicated that the winger was going through a frustrating time and stated that he needs more time to get used to the new surroundings. The manager had said, ”He’s a little bit frustrated, he just needs to up his tempo and his work.
It’s still, again, an adaptation period for him. He’s young, in a new country and doesn’t speak great English. So, we know we’ve got a good player on our hands, and we’ll see more of him as the season progresses.”
It is yet not clear how severe is the ankle injury, but the fact that he has been sent back to Celtic from national duty straightaway suggests that he could be out for weeks. Some fans might be slightly disappointed as a lot more was expected out of Shved this season. However, it’s never easy for young players to come in a completely new country and league and adapt straight away.
The one time Ukraine international has made just one appearance so far this season which came in the Champions League qualifiers against Nomme Kalju and the 22-year-old even managed to find the back of the net.
Shved is more of a right-winger, so he is anyway going to struggle to get game time as Lennon has James Forrest at his disposal who is one of the best players of Celtic. With Europa League, various cup competitions and league games to contest in, one can expect Shved to get his chances if he keeps on improving and manages to impress Lennon in training.
This injury is definitely a setback as this might push him further down the pecking order. Celtic fans will hope that his situation doesn’t become like that of Daniel Arzani who has been almost invisible ever since he was signed last year on loan.
