Everton faced off against Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium earlier today hoping to earn their first away win of this Premier League campaign. The Toffees made a sloppy start to the match and conceded in the 23rd minute when Callum Wilson scored to put the Cherries ahead. However, Dominic Calvert-Lewin managed to equalise in the 44th minute to make the scoreline level at half-time.
Eddie Howe’s men came out strong in the second half and got themselves ahead via Ryan Fraser’s freekick in the 67th minute. Just five minutes later, Wilson put the icing on the cake and made the points secure for the home side when he found the back of the Everton net with a calm finish. The match ended with the Merseyside outfit suffering a disappointing 3-1 defeat on the road.
Let’s take a look at how each Everton player performed during the contest against the Cherries.
GK: Jordan Pickford – 6/10
He managed to make a good save in the first half to deny Dominic Solanke. The English keeper couldn’t do much about any of Bournemouth’s three goals on the day.
RB: Seamus Coleman – 5.5/10
The Toffees full-back found it challenging to cope with Joshua King’s pace at the back. To his credit, Coleman played a crucial role in the lead up to Calvert-Lewin’s equaliser just before half-time.
CB: Michael Keane – 5/10
The English centre-back looked shaky in defence and couldn’t get the better of Callum Wilson during the game.
CB: Yerry Mina – 5/10
The Colombian defensive ace struggled to deal with the pace of the Cherries attackers and got exposed on a few occasions inside his own half.
LB: Lucas Digne – 5/10
The French full-back failed to create too many meaningful chances in the opposition half. He was also exposed defensively by Bournemouth’s Ryan Fraser.
CM: Morgan Schneiderlin – 5.5/10
He had to provide adequate cover for the Everton defenders at the back but couldn’t create any openings going forward.
CM: Fabian Delph – 6/10
The former Aston Villa talent was unfortunate when Ryan Fraser’s freekick took a slight deflection of him before going into the Everton net. He worked hard for his team but lacked invention in midfield.
RM: Richarlison – 6/10
The Brazilian winger could have scored with his attempt that saw the ball rattle the crossbar. He managed to grab an assist when he set-up Calvert-Lewin who scored in the 44th minute. Richarlison was also guilty of squandering some decent opportunities in the final third.
CAM: Gylfi Sigurdsson – 5/10
The Icelandic midfielder looked like a player out of form as he failed to cause too many headaches for the Bournemouth defenders.
LM: Alex Iwobi – 5/10
The former Arsenal speedster couldn’t trouble the Cherries as they tracked his runs well to neutralise his impact on the pitch.
ST: Dominic Calvert-Lewin – 7/10
The English striker found the back of the Bournemouth net with a clever header late in the first half. Calvert-Lewin’s impact on the game faded in the second half, which is why Marco Silva subbed him in the 71st minute.
Substitutes:
ST: Moise Kean – 6/10
Kean’s energy up top caused a few problems for the home side in the final quarter of the game.
LM: Bernard – 5/10
The Brazilian struggled to make an impact in the match after coming on in the 71st minute.
RM: Theo Walcott – N/A
There was not enough time for him to influence the game.
