Real Madrid have stormed their way to the second position in the La Liga points table with a 0-1 victory at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan. This win means that Los Blancos have continued their unbeaten start to the 2019/20 La Liga campaign.
Zidane would be particularly impressed with this side’s performance as they were well prepared for this fixture against Sevilla. The Whites defended as a team and managed to hold onto their slender lead until the full-time whistle was blown. Also, Real Madrid managed to hold on to their very first clean-sheet of the season against the Andalusian side.
This would be a huge morale-boosting victory for the team from the Spanish capital as they were totally taken apart by a Paris Saint-Germain side in the UEFA Champions League mid-week. Zidane would also be relieved with this victory as the Spanish press would now have another topic to discuss.
The deadlock was broken in the 65th minute by Karim Benzema who pounced on a beautiful cross by Dani Caravajal from close to the goal-line. Karim Benzema netted his fifth goal of the league season in just five games and continued his excellent run of form.
It is was a collective effort by Zizou’s boys, and it worked off in the end as they would be travelling back to Madrid with all three points in the bag. Here’s how Los Blancos are rated in their one-goal victory against Sevilla.
Real Madrid Players Rated From Their Important Away Win Vs Sevilla
Starting Eleven
Courtois – 8/10
Managed to hold onto his very first clean-sheet since the month of February in the Real Madrid shirt. Courtois was largely untroubled on the night.
Dani Carvajal – 7/10
Carvajal seemed a bit sloppy in possession of the ball but made up for it with a sumptuous cross for Karim Benzema which turned out to be the game-winner.
Raphael Varane – 8/10
Varane had a splendid evening. He stood in the Madrid back-line like a wall, keeping all the Sevilla attacks at bay on the night.
Sergio Ramos – 7/10
Pleasant evening from Sergio Ramos on his return to the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan. He picked up a yellow card for a foul on Ocampos.
Ferland Mendy – 7/10
The left-back had a tiring evening deputising for the injured Marcelo. Mendy was a bit sloppy with his passes but stood firm while defending his goal.
James Rodriguez – 7/10
James played a lively game of football before being replaced by Federico Valverde. He seemed sharp on the night and even delivered the perfect ball for Dani Carvajal in the first half.
Casemiro – 7/10
Casemiro had a brilliant evening guarding the Madrid back-line. It would be hard to see this Real Madrid team function without Casemiro in the starting eleven. The dependency Madrid have on him was clearly displayed today as he covered up for his side on a handful of occasions.
Toni Kroos – 7/10
There’s barely any evening on which Toni Kroos fails to deliver. The German showcased some brilliant passing and vision along with his game-dictating play from midfield.
Gareth Bale – 7/10
The Welshman had a very ordinary evening. He seemed the sharpest player on the pitch and his match awareness nearly paid off inside the Sevilla box in the second-half before he lost control of the ball and it ran across the goal-line.
Karim Benzema – 9/10
The French striker was right on top of his game in the evening. Once again Benzema is the one who’s winning the points for Los Blancos. The striker poached on a brilliant cross from Carvajal and netted Real Madrid’s first and the only goal of the night.
Eden Hazard – 7/10
The Belgian seems to be getting into the grove slowly and steadily from his injury lay-off. He almost got onto the score-sheet today evening with a splendid first-half effort on goal.
Substitutes
Federico Valverde – 6/10
The youngster had a quiet evening after coming on for James Rodriguez.
Lucas Vasquez – 5/10
Vasquez did not have much involvement after replacing Eden Hazard in the closing moments of the game.
