Barcelona have endured a poor start to the season with several key players like Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez missing due to injury. However, injuries to these first-team starters have allowed young and qualified La Masia graduates to impress one and all.
One of Barcelona’s brightest sparks from the opening few weeks of the 2019-20 season is Carles Perez. The 21-year-old has had a fantastic time playing for the Barcelona first team. The player has also earned himself a name in front of a global audience which has been quick to spot the potential Perez possesses.
Carles Perez has assisted two goals and scored once in the four appearances he has made with Barcelona this season. More importantly, he has seemed like a player who is an able match for the Barcelona style of football. The attractive performances the youngster has put in are reaping him rewards already.
It is understood by Italian publication Calciomercato, Barcelona are planning on striking a new deal with Carles Perez over his future at the club. The report further states that the same could be a plan in action by next month itself. However, all that glitters is not gold. Carles is set to enter a phase of limited appearances with the likes of Lionel Messi and Ousmane Dembele set to return.
Luis Suarez has already made an impact after scoring two goals in Barcelona victory against Valencia last weekend. Here’s what looks in store for Carles Perez at such an early phase in his career –
Restricted Game Time
With the likes of Luis Suarez, Lionel Messi and Ousmane Dembele set to return to the first team after length injury layoffs, Perez’s game time is going to be largely restricted. The player would have to make do with odd starts in the Copa del Rey against teams from the lower divisions. His appearances in the Primera Division would also be mostly off the bench.
The same puts him under the added pressure of performing exceptionally well in the limited game time that would come his way. This certainly does not work in the youngster’s favour.
Loan Spells
Several clubs across Europe have developed the tendency to loan out their future prospects to test their real mettle. Carles Pérez could also be looking for something similar come summer. Even presently, Barcelona have as many as nine emerging players on loan at other clubs. It would not be surprising to see Carles leave on loan in the coming months as well.
It would not be an ideal situation for a player of Perez’s potential to be playing for another side on loan keeping in mind his La Masia roots.
