Chelsea travelled to the Molineux Stadium to clash heads with Wolverhampton Wanderers earlier today hoping to pick up maximum points on the road. The Pensioners settled into the game well and scored three first-half goals via Fikayo Tomori’s long-range strike and a brace from Tammy Abraham.
Frank Lampard’s men continued their dominance in the second half as Abraham scored again in the 55th minute to complete his hattrick. However, Wolves refused to give up without a fight and scored two consolation goals courtesy of an Abraham own goal and Patrick Cutrone’s finish from close range.
Mason Mount put the icing on the cake as he registered his name on the scoresheet in injury-time to cap off an excellent 5-2 away victory for the West London giants.
Let’s take a look at how each Chelsea player performed during the contest against Wolves.
GK: Kepa Arrizabalaga – 5/10
The Spanish keeper was hardly troubled in the first half. However, he could have done better in the lead-up to Abraham’s own goal when he failed to punch the ball out of the danger area.
CB: Antonio Rüdiger – 7/10
The German centre-back put in a commanding display at the back. It was an impressive return from injury for him today.
CB: Andreas Christensen – 6.5/10
He managed to neutralise the threat of Raul Jimenez during the contest. However, Christensen was a bit sloppy when in possession of the ball in the second half.
CB: Fikayo Tomori – 8/10
The Chelsea youngster gave his team the lead with a wonder goal from long range in the first half. He showed a lot of confidence and maturity to help his side claim a 5-2 win away at the West Midlands.
RWB: César Azpilicueta – 6.5/10
The Chelsea captain made some decent runs in the Wolves half but lacked the cutting edge in the final third.
CM: Jorginho – 7.5/10
The Italian midfield ace sprayed some wonderful passes during the game and helped establish Chelsea’s dominance at the middle of the park.
CM: Mateo Kovacic – 8/10
The Croatia international had one of his best games for the Pensioners today. He completely dominated the match as he won back possession quite a few times and made a positive impact going forward.
LWB: Marcos Alonso – 7/10
The Spaniard celebrated his return to the Chelsea first-team with a fine assist for Tammy Abraham’s second goal of the game. However, Matt Doherty gave him some headaches defensively in the second half.
RAM: Willian – 6/10
The Brazilian playmaker had a quiet game in the Wolves half as he failed to create anything meaningful going forward. However, he worked his socks off defensively to provide adequate protection for Azpilicueta at the back.
LAM: Mason Mount – 7.5/10
The English youngster scored again for Chelsea in injury-time to keep his good form going in the Premier League. He is rewarding his manager’s faith by producing some memorable displays on the field, and it was no exception today.
ST: Tammy Abraham – 9.5/10
The English forward had a terrific first-half as he scored two quick-fire goals to hand his team a commanding three-goal lead at half-time. Abraham completed his hattrick in the 55th minute before scoring an unfortunate own goal in the second half.
Substitutes:
CB: Kurt Zouma – 6/10
He was a dominating presence at the back for Chelsea in the second half.
CM: Ross Barkley – 5/10
The English midfield ace gave away the ball cheaply in midfield and didn’t add too much going forward.
ST: Michy Batshuayi – 5/10
The Belgian striker should have scored after coming on for the final quarter of the game.
