According to the reports in France as cited by Birmingham Mail, Wolves can bring in one more player before the transfer window shuts down and that player could be Southampton’s Mario Lemina. Reports say that the deal is in the ‘last straight’. A central midfielder is said to be high on Nuno Santo’s wishlist.
The midfielder even though blessed with impressive talent, has failed to cement his place at the south coast. The Gabonese international made 23 appearances for the Saints and contributed with one goal and one assist last season. A lot was expected out of the midfielder as he came from a club like Juventus and Southampton had spent £17m on him in the summer of 2017.
Reports mention that the midfielder fell further out of favour under new boss Ralph Hassenhuttl and he has been given permission to look for new clubs. Injuries in the last two years also haven’t helped his cause, and Lemina wasn’t part of Southampton’s pre-season training camp in Austria.
The 25-year-old is currently in his prime, and he should look to kick start his career after the debacle of the last two years.
What will Lemina add to Santo’s side?
Lemina is a versatile midfielder, but he is at his best in a defensive midfield role. However, his dribbling skills and ability to carry the ball can see him easily fit in a more advanced role in midfield. The 25-year-old has that flair to his game which allows him to pull off some atrocious skills once in a while. However, he is one of those players who plays well when he is in the mood.
When things don’t go right, Lemina can be a liability, and he might seem disinterested. Nevertheless, he has that natural talent to thrive in the Premier League and all he needs is to settle in at a new club. The midfielder’s passing game is strong, and he is definitely worth considering even though he has had an underwhelming spell at Southampton.
Right move from Wolves?
Lemina will bring in more depth and competition for places in the middle of the park. His versatility allows him to be used as a right-back as well as he has got decent pace and ability to carry the ball from the back. As a squad player, he is worth going after in our opinion. If he manages to settle in, Wolves will have a top player at their disposal as Lemina has all the attributes necessary to thrive at this level.
