According to a recent tweet posted by the renowned Italian journalist, Alfredo Pedulla, Wolverhampton Wanderers have seen their bid accepted by AC Milan for Franck Kessie. The same source has also mentioned that the West Midlands outfit tabled an offer around €28m (£25.8m) to bring the Ivory Coast midfielder to the Molineux Stadium before the start of the new campaign.
Kessie’s Successful Spell In The Italian Top-Flight
Kessie made a name for himself at Atalanta BC before he was allowed to move to AC Milan on a two-year loan spell. He put in a string of commanding displays in midfield for the Serie A giants over the past couple of seasons. The Ivory Coast international has scored 12 goals and provided eight assists in 96 appearances for the Milan outfit across all competitions thus far.
On the defensive end, Kessie made an average of 1.2 tackles, 0.8 interceptions and 1.5 clearances per game in the Italian top-flight last season (stats via whoscored). He has also earned 27 international caps for Ivory Coast but is yet to open his goal-scoring account for his nation.
The 22-year-old will be an excellent addition to the Wolves squad as he has all the skill set required to be a success story at the Molineux Stadium. The Ouragahio-born talent primarily operates as a holding midfielder but can also fill in as a box to box player or play as a centre-back if needed.
What Will The Ivorian Prospect Add To Nuno Espirito Santo’s Side?
Kessie is a commanding presence in midfield who can make some driving runs with the ball in the opposition half. He is a tireless worker off the ball and has added some goals and assists to his game going forward. Even though he is far from a finished product, the Serie A prospect has remarkable potential and could be in line to become a future star in English football.
Recruiting a player of Kessie’s versatility and work ethic will undeniably help Wolves compete for a top 8 place in the Premier League next season. Furthermore, he will also add some much-needed depth to Nuno Espirito Santo’s squad ahead of the new campaign.
However, the jury is still out on whether he would be able to handle the physical side of English football if he decides to move to the West Midlands this summer.
