Manchester United and Chelsea locked horns at Old Trafford on blockbuster Sunday. This game has been Box Office over the years and the fans were hoping for yet another intriguing contest despite certain shortcomings. But the outcome proved to be a dream start for one and a nightmare for the other after 90 minutes of the gruelling football.
The Blues conceded early from the spot but reacted sharply and were denied by the woodwork twice in the first half. David De Gea rescued the Red Devils majestically, and moments of defensive vulnerability squandered any comeback hopes. Chelsea conceded thrice after the break and the hosts clinched a boisterous 4-0 win to kick off the new campaign.
Although the scoreline was not at all the true reflection of Chelsea’s attacking flair, it indeed justified their frailty at the back. They lack experience, intensity and leadership traits in the heart of their defence and Kurt Zouma, in particular, was shambolic throughout the evening.
Twitter, as usual, exploded in the aftermath of the final whistle and the United fans, sceptics prior to the tie, did not hide their ecstasy and euphoria on social media following the perfect inception.
Nothing is better than a smile on Sir Alex Ferguson’s face ❤️
Well DONE United ?
Great start. Let’s hope we keep the same form throughout the whole season.#MUNCHE #ManUtd pic.twitter.com/gTfaYtV0pH

Someone rated the new-look backline as league’s best ahead of their bitter rivals Liverpool as well as Manchester City.

Don’t want to speak too soon, but right now, it seems like United has the best defense in the league.

A brilliant analogy from one supporter who compared Frank Lampard and Ole Gunnar Solskjær’s style of play to describe the game.
Chelsea played like Lampard – dominates midfield. United played like Solskjaer – dominates attack.

Few of them, however, are cautious and focusing on the upcoming Wolves tie at the Molineux.
It’s one game, against a Chelsea side weakened by injury. Get some perspective. I’ll be a lot more impressed if we beat Wolves away next match.

Like we get too carried away and WOLVES can come and shock us.

Chelsea fans, on the other hand, are dejected but hopeful of a quick turnaround under the tutelage of their club legend.

– Reece JamesLITERALLY have no words to explain how much I want these to return to the team fully fit as soon as possible. We didn’t deserve the 4-0 loss, but it was a shambolic defensive performance.

The score line doesn’t represent this game but that’s football, too many mistakes but it’s the first game of the season, under a transfer ban, at united. Judge Frank and the team at the end of the season now one game.

At least we got that out of the way first, we still have a few players to come back and Frank will be sure to make changes and tweaks after today’s result. The performance deserved more but we were naive at times, we have to learn and move on from this. Better days ahead. #KTBFFH
