According to Estadio Deportivo, Tottenham Hotspur have expressed interest in Real Betis midfielder Victor Camarasa. The ex-Cardiff City star is expected to leave the club this summer following a promising spell in the Premier League. Spurs, however, are believed to be joined by West Ham, Burnley as well as Celta in the pursuit of Camarasa.
Camarasa’s spell at Real Betis
Camarasa initially joined Real Betis in 2017 in a €7 million move from Levante. However, he endured a difficult debut campaign for the Beticos, featuring in 24 league matches, out of which, only 14 were starts. He mustered just over 1,200 minutes of league football.
Following his lack of game-time at Betis, he moved to Cardiff City in a season-long loan deal last summer. And despite the Bluebirds’ relegation, Camarasa did a pretty good job, scoring five goals and providing four assists. He was an ever-present figure in the Cardiff midfield, making 32 league appearances.
He returned to Real Betis this summer. But, he is unlikely to play a prominent role under Rubi in the upcoming season, especially following the arrival of French World Cup winner Nabil Fekir.
What can Camarasa bring to the table?
Camarasa is mainly known for his versatility. A central midfielder by trade, the 25-year-old can operate as an attacking midfielder as well as a deep-lying playmaker. He has excellent work-rate and can augment the midfield with his passing and distribution.
Besides, the Spaniard is proficient from set-pieces – making him a useful source of creativity in the final third. Another key aspect of Camarasa’s game is his ability to provide crosses from wider areas of the pitch. The midfielder averaged 1.6 key passes per game last season.

Is Camarasa a good option for Tottenham?
Camarasa will be a cost-effective alternative for another Real Betis prime target, Giovani Lo Celso. The 25-year-old has already proven himself in the Premier League. He is, therefore, unlikely to find any difficulties in settling into his new club. The Spaniard’s excellent work-rate and ball carrying qualities could make him a replacement for Mousa Dembele that Tottenham always lacked during the second half of last season.
Moreover, Camarasa’s versatility will make things easier for Mauricio Pochettino given his heavy rotation policy. The fact that the ex-Cardiff City star can feature anywhere across central midfield could add some much-needed depth in the midfield department. Hence, Camarasa is a viable transfer target for Spurs.
