Manchester City will take on Liverpool in the FA Community Shield at Wembley Stadium this Sunday looking to serve a mental blow ahead of the new Premier League campaign. The Citizens come into this game at the back of a 3-1 win over Yokohama FM so they will be confident about their chances of securing a positive result this weekend.
Pep Guardiola will likely choose to go with a 4-3-3 formation to counter Jurgen Klopp’s 4-3-3 set-up for the Reds. Both sides will play an open, expansive brand of attacking football, which makes this an exciting contest for the neutral.
4-3-3 Manchester City Predicted Lineup To Face Liverpool
Defence
Ederson will resume his duties in goal for Man City as the Brazilian goalie tries to put in another impressive display at the back. The defensive duo of John Stones and Aymeric Laporte will line up ahead of Ederson at the centre of the Citizens backline. Laporte had the best campaign of his playing career in the last term. We can expect him to be at the peak of his powers when he lines up on the pitch this Sunday.
Kyle Walker will feature as the right-back while trying to create a few opportunities in the Liverpool half. Oleksandr Zinchenko will lineup at the left-back position hoping to cope with Mohamed Salah’s threat from the wide areas. Danilo will play as the back-up to both full-backs on Guardiola’s bench.
Midfield
The terrific trio of Kevin De Bruyne, Rodri and David Silva could make up the Man City midfield in the FA Community Shield versus the Reds this weekend. De Bruyne managed to get his name on the scoresheet against Yokohama FM last Saturday. The Belgian international would now look to repeat that feat versus Klopp’s men at Wembley.
Both Ilkay Gundogan and Phil Foden will be a part of Guardiola’s bench and might come on during the contest if required.
Attack
Guardiola might opt for a front three of Raheem Sterling, Sergio Aguero and Bernardo Silva against the Merseyside outfit on Sunday. All three forwards had a fantastic 2018-19 campaign when they scored or created a significant bulk of Man City’s goals up top.
Gabriel Jesus might be a part of the Citizens bench this weekend after he returned to training earlier this week.
