Manchester City wide player Patrick Roberts joined Norwich City on a season-long loan earlier this summer and has already made his first appearance for the Canaries in their 1-0 defeat away at Crawley Town in the Carabao Cup. In a recent interview (via Manchester Evening News), Roberts shed some light on his life at Carrow Road and said, “They’re young lads but they’re very committed and have a set idea of what they want. Obviously they were brilliant last season.
“They’ve kept that momentum and they’ve been unreal this season as well, I’ve seen them in training and you just want to help them. I want to help myself but you’ve got to help the team and put Norwich first, that’s the most important thing.
“We’ve been brilliant, some top-class players and you get better with those players around you and that’s all I can hope for myself and the other players.
“I’m here to help Norwich as much as I can this season and what I want is to play football, as every lad wants to.
“I speak to the boss all the time and I want to help the team as much as I can. If I’m not playing then that’s fine and if I am then I’ll give it my all. I’m just happy to be in football, I enjoy what I do and I’ll carry on that attitude throughout the season.”
Roberts’ Rise To The Top Of English Football
The English wing wizard began his career at Wimbledon before joining Fulham at an early age. He came through the youth ranks at Craven Cottage before Man City decided to bring him to the Etihad Stadium in the summer of 2015. Roberts has only made three senior appearances for the Citizens thus far but has spent time on loan at clubs such as Celtic and Girona before deciding to make a loan switch to Norwich this summer.
The English talent rose to prominence during his time at Celtic Park where he scored 18 goals and created 26 assists in 78 matches for the Glaswegian giants across all competitions. However, he was not close to breaking into Pep Guardiola’s first-team at Manchester and had to go out on another loan spell to join the Canaries this season.
What Are The English Sensation’s Strengths And Weaknesses?
Roberts is a moderately paced wide player who can complete some lung-bursting dribbles out on the wide areas. He can also link up play well with others around him. However, the youngster does not have a high work-rate and is not willing to track back the opposition attacks inside his own half, which makes him a liability on the pitch.
Does Roberts Have A Future At The Etihad?
The former Celtic star has not proven his worth at the highest level so his loan spell at Norwich could make or break his Man City career. If he can be one of the standout players of Daniel Farke’s side this term, then there is a chance that he might be able to impress Guardiola enough to feature for the Citizens next season. However, if he fails to deliver in this Premier League campaign, then it could be curtains for Roberts’ career at the Etihad.
