Chelsea faced off against Leicester City at Stamford Bridge earlier today looking to earn their first league win of this campaign. The Pensioners started the match on the front foot and made the breakthrough in the 7th minute courtesy of Mason Mount’s clever finish. However, the Foxes slowly came back into the game and enjoyed more of the possession, but they couldn’t come up with a leveller in the first half.
Brendan Rodgers’ men were dominant on the counter in the second half and finally managed to score the equaliser through Wilfred Ndidi’s powerful header in the 67th minute. Both teams fought hard but lacked the cutting edge in the final third as the game finished with the final score of 1-1 after the full-time whistle.
Let’s take a look at how each Chelsea player performed during the encounter against the Foxes.
GK: Kepa Arrizabalaga – 6/10
The Spanish goalie was largely untroubled in the first half. However, he had a lot of problems in the second but could do nothing about Ndidi’s header.
RB: César Azpilicueta – 4/10
The Chelsea full-back lost his marker in the lead-up to the Leicester equaliser. He will be hoping for better days as the Chelsea captain.
CB: Andreas Christensen – 6/10
He made some important interceptions for his side but couldn’t do enough to keep a clean sheet at the back.
CB: Kurt Zouma – 6.5/10
The French defensive ace commanded his own box well and was a dominant presence in the air. He made some vital interceptions for his side in the second half.
LB: Emerson Palmieri – 7/10
He was a decent outlet for the Pensioners down the left flank in the first half. However, he was not too effective going forward after the half-time break.
CM: N’Golo Kanté – 7/10
The French midfield ace made a few essential last-ditch blocks for his side and covered a lot of ground at the middle of the park.
CM: Jorginho – 6/10
The Chelsea talent sprayed the ball accurately but failed to create too many chances in the second half.
RM: Pedro – 7/10
The Spaniard caused a lot of problems for the Foxes defenders early on and was unlucky not to score during the contest.
CAM: Mason Mount – 8.5/10
The youngster scored his first senior goal for the Pensioners when he gave his team the lead in the 7th minute. He was a constant threat for the Leicester defenders and made some excellent driving runs from midfield.
LM: Christian Pulisic – 7/10
The American made some penetrative runs down the left flank, which was challenging to cope with for the opposition. However, his impact on the game faded and so, he was replaced by Willian in the second half.
ST: Olivier Giroud – 7/10
The French centre-forward linked up play well with his teammates in the final third. However, he hardly got a goal-scoring chance in the game and was substituted for Tammy Abraham in the second half.
Substitutes:
ST: Tammy Abraham – 5/10
The youngster tried his best but couldn’t find the finishing touch in the offensive end of the field.
RM: Willian – 4/10
The Brazilian playmaker failed to create anything meaningful going forward.
CM: Mateo Kovacic – 5/10
He brought some energy to the Chelsea midfield, which was looking tired towards the latter stages of the encounter.
