Manchester United travelled to the Molineux Stadium to face off against Wolverhampton Wanderers earlier tonight hoping to build on their winning start to this Premier League campaign. The Red Devils made a bright start to the game and opened the goal-scoring in the 27th minute when Anthony Martial scored with a powerful finish from a tight angle. However, the home team came up with a response in the second half through Ruben Neves’ brilliant long-range strike in the 55th minute.
Paul Pogba earned a penalty which he ended up missing when Rui Patricio made a world-class save to keep the scoreline level. Both teams fought tooth and nail but couldn’t find the winner as the match finished with a 1-1 scoreline after the full-time whistle.
Let’s take a look at how each Man United player performed during the match against Wolves.
GK: David De Gea – 6/10
The Spanish keeper hardly had anything to do in the game. He was helpless when Ruben Neves rifled in Wolves’ equaliser in the second half.
RB: Aaron Wan-Bissaka – 8/10
The former Crystal Palace right-back put in a tireless display and was a decent outlet for the Red Devils down the right flank.
CB: Victor Lindelof – 7.5/10
The Man United centre-back protected his backline effectively and passed the well out from the back.
CB: Harry Maguire – 8/10
The Red Devils new boy commanded his own box well and kept things tight at the back. It took a wondergoal from Neves to breach the Man United defence tonight.
LB: Luke Shaw – 6/10
The English full-back did his defensive job in the first half. However, he found it difficult to cope with Adama Traore’s pace and trickery in the second.
CM: Scott McTominay – 6/10
He provided adequate defensive cover for Solskjaer’s backline but was not creative enough with his passes in the opposition half.
CM: Paul Pogba – 6/10
The French international showed some glimpses of his brilliance but missed the crucial penalty in the second half, which ended up costing the visitors two points on the night.
LM: Marcus Rashford – 7/10
His pace on the counter caused a lot of problems for the Wolves defenders. He was a constant threat in the first half but was quiet after half-time.
CAM: Jesse Lingard – 5/10
It was a very average display from the Man United attacking midfielder. Lingard took up some dangerous positions but needed to add more end-product to his game tonight.
RM: Daniel James – 6/10
The Welsh youngster tried to make some penetrative dribbles but lacked the cutting edge in the final third.
ST: Anthony Martial – 8/10
The French striker produced an excellent finish in the first half to hand his team the lead. He caused a lot of headaches for the Wolves defenders and linked up play well with others in the offensive end of the field.
Substitutes:
RM: Juan Mata – N/A
Not enough time to make an impact.
ST: Mason Greenwood – N/A
He ran the clock down before the referee blew the final whistle.
CAM: Andreas Pereira – N/A
He got very little time to influence the game.
