According to a recent report by ESPN FC, Manchester United are willing to wait and find out more about the extent of Anthony Martial’s recent injury before deciding on the future of Alexis Sanchez this summer. The same source has revealed that the Chilean international is waiting to hear from the Red Devils prior to his move to Inter Milan.
Martial’s Injury Has Made Sanchez’s Future Uncertain
Martial sustained a thigh injury during his team’s 2-1 home loss against Crystal Palace last weekend and is now expected to undergo a full assessment with the Man United medical team. The Mancunian outfit cannot afford to lose both Martial and Sanchez at the same time as it will leave Ole Gunnar Solskjaer short of options up top.
Hence, there is no other option than for the Red Devils to wait until they can come up with a suitable solution. Injuries have ravaged Sanchez’s spell at Old Trafford. He has failed to secure regular first-team football under Solskjaer’s tutelage and is currently on the fringes of the Man United squad.
Hence, a change of scenery would have been perfect for the Chilean attacker at this stage of his career. The 30-year-old has registered five goals and provided nine assists in 45 appearances for the Red Devils since making a switch from Arsenal at the start of last year.
Sanchez has a wealth of experience at the international level, having made 130 appearances for Chile while scoring 43 goals in the process. At 30, the South American sensation needs to earn regular game time if he wants to reignite his career in European football.
The ex-Arsenal star can still be a lethal presence inside the opposition penalty box when he is playing with confidence on the pitch. However, Sanchez has to prove his worth once again if he wants to earn regular first-team opportunities in the coming years.
Should Man United Keep Sanchez At The Theatre Of Dreams Beyond This Summer?
Solskjaer should undoubtedly consider retaining his services for the time being as Martial’s injury could leave Man United with just Marcus Rashford and Mason Greenwood as the only two forwards at Old Trafford. They cannot expect to compete on all fronts with only two fit strikers in their squad. Hence, the Red Devils are better off keeping Sanchez for now before deciding on his future when the situation improves in the striking department.
