According to Daily Mail, Manchester United are in pole position to sign Borussia Dortmund star Jadon Sancho. It is believed that the England international is set to leave the Bundesliga next summer. But, United could face stiff competition from cross-town rivals Manchester City in the pursuit of Sancho, who is likely to cost over £100 million.
An ideal replacement for Alexis Sanchez?
Alexis Sanchez has been an enormous flop for Manchester United since arriving at Old Trafford at the start of last year. The 30-year-old made 20 appearances last season, during which he scored only one goal while providing three assists.
Sanchez’s inconsistent performances at United forced Ole-Gunnar Solskjaer to rely on the likes of Anthony Martial and even Jesse Lingard. The Red Devils have also signed Daniel James this summer. But, the Welshman is inexperienced at the highest level of football.
Sancho, in that regard, could be an exceptional replacement for the Chilean international. The youngster will gain some valuable experience by the end of this season, having already played an integral role for Dortmund during the 2018/19 campaign. And this experience could help him quickly integrate to the Premier League.
His style of play could be suited to the Premier League
Speaking of Premier League, Sancho’s flashy skills and tricks could be ideally suited to the nature of the Premier League. The English international loves to take on defenders in the final third. He can deceive the opposition with his nimble footwork and a quick burst of pace.
And considering how players like Wilfried Zaha and Eden Hazard have been successful in the Premier League in the past two-three seasons, it won’t be surprising to see Sancho becoming one of the league’s best players within the coming years.
Aside from his dribbling prowess, the Dortmund youngster is also blessed with the sheer pace, which coupled with his ability to whip in crosses into the box – makes him a tailor-made fit for English football.
He is a perfect fit for Ole-Gunnar Solskjaer’s vision
Since being appointed as the United manager, Ole-Gunnar Solskjaer has remained keen on the development of young players, especially those who are from Britain. His vision was reflected in the club’s transfer activity this summer, with the Red Devils bringing in the likes of Harry Maguire, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and James.
Sancho, being an Englishman aged 19, also passes the criteria. But more importantly, he will instantly be able to make an impact at Old Trafford, having already proved himself in the Bundesliga. And at such a young age, the ex-Man City youth graduate could be a smart long-term investment for the Red Devils.
