In a recent press conference ahead of Liverpool’s trip to Burnley (via the Daily Mirror), Jurgen Klopp provided an update on Alisson Becker’s injury and said, “Alisson made steps, but it was a proper injury. It will still take time.
“The calf muscle is pretty important for jumping. Thank God we have a fit Adrian, I’m really happy with everything I saw.
“The solution we found is really good.”
Alisson’s Injury Has Put Adrian Under The Spotlight
The Brazil international suffered a calf injury against Norwich City in the opening night of the Premier League season. However, Adrian has stepped up to the plate in his absence and helped Liverpool lift the UEFA Super Cup earlier this month. At the same time, the Spanish shot-stopper is yet to keep a clean sheet for Klopp’s side thus far, which is a cause for concern.
The former West Ham goalie was also guilty of making a poor mistake against Southampton when his awkward clearance saw the ball get deflected off Danny Ings into the Liverpool net. There is no denying that Alisson is Klopp’s number one goalkeeping option, but Adrian has enough experience to fill in during the Brazilian’s absence.
The Spaniard needs to concentrate on taking fewer risks when passing the ball out from the back. There is no need for him to be worried as it is only a matter of time before he secures his first shut-out in Liverpool colours.
Alisson was named the UEFA goalkeeper of the year last night for his incredible contributions for Liverpool and the Brazilian national side over the past year. He is currently among the world’s best shot-stoppers so the Reds will deeply feel his absence in the coming weeks.
How Can Klopp Cope With The Brazilian Goalie’s Absence?
However, Klopp has put his faith in Adrian, but whether the Spanish goalkeeper can keep his mistakes to a minimum over the next few weeks remains to be seen. As long as Liverpool can start earning clean sheets at the back, they should not worry about Alisson’s unavailability. However, if they start leaking goals regularly, then Klopp might have to consider some of his other goalkeeping options in Caoimhin Kelleher and Andy Lonergan.
However, the Liverpool supporters would hope that their beloved number one keeper, Alisson can make a speedy recovery and lineup in between the sticks at Anfield once again after the international break next month.
