Leicester City have cashed in on their English centre-back Elliott Moore as the player has now joined Oxford United. The centre back had this to say to the club website after he completed his move, “I have loved my time at Leicester but I know it is the right time to move on and try to get games and establish myself.”
The 22-year-old did not make a first-team appearance for the West Midlands outfit but has represented their Under-23 side in 46 matches across all competitions. He has also played for England at various youth levels and spent the past two seasons on loan at OH Leuven in the second tier of Belgian football.
The 6ft 5-inch defensive ace is a menacing presence at both ends of the pitch. He can be a potent threat in the opposition penalty box during set-pieces as evidenced by his tally of eight goals in 64 matches for OH Leuven.
Now that Brendan Rodgers has parted ways with Elliot, there is a need to bring in a suitable replacement so that the Foxes have a strong squad capable of challenging on all fronts next season. Here are three alternatives for the English centre-half for Rodgers to consider in this off-season.
Wes Harding
The Leicester-born centre-back was a solid presence in the Birmingham City backline last season. He made 29 appearances for the West Midlands outfit in the previous term helping his team avoid relegation to the League One. Harding could be an ideal replacement for Elliot as he is a capable defender who will give it his all for his local club.
Dominic Ball
The 23-year-old was a regular presence of the Queens Park Rangers backline in the previous campaign. He featured in 40 matches for the London outfit and also managed to save his side from suffering the agony of being relegated from the EFL Championship last season. A defender of Ball’s skillset will undoubtedly bolster Rodgers’ overall squad depth ahead of the new campaign.
Filippo Romagna
The Italian defender came through the youth ranks of Juventus and is currently a sporadic feature in Cagliari Calcio’s first-team. The 22-year-old appeared in 22 matches for the Serie A outfit last season. The Foxes should consider recruiting him as Rodgers could be the perfect manager to nurture the young talent and transform him into a world-class centre-back in the coming years.
