Victor Orta not too long ago claimed that the current Leeds United squad is 90 percent complete and are prepared to take on the challenges of the Championship. Some fans would have been slightly disappointed because certain positions still need reinforcements.
Now the club’s Managing Director Angus Kinnear has hinted (Yorkshire Evening Post) that there could be some late action from Leeds United in the transfer window. The Whites recently parted ways with Bailey Peacock-Farrell who went on to join Burnley. They could also be tested with bids for Kemar Roofe and Kalvin Phillips, but it seems to us that the duo will most likely stay at the club now.
Kinnear was quoted as saying, ” There still may be some twists and turns before the window is over, but we are very happy with the squad as it is at the moment. Marcelo is confident, and we share his confidence.”
From outside, we feel that the club is short in some areas. However, it seems like Bielsa is already confident with the options he has at his disposal. Here are three positions where we think the club still needs reinforcements, and we also rate the chances of the moves taking place.
Centre back
The departure of Pontus Jansson came all of a sudden, and that has left the Whites a bit short at the back. We all saw how the club suffered from various injuries last season, and a significant injury to either Liam Cooper or Gaetano Berardi could spell doom for the club.
Ben White is a new option after being signed on loan. Hopefully, he would hit the ground running straight away. Luke Ayling and Kalvin Phillips might have to fill in at the back from time to time in case of emergencies. Not an ideal situation, but we have seen that Bielsa is more keen to solve problems internally instead of looking outside.
As things stand, chances of a new centre back coming in are almost zero as no plausible players have been linked so far.
Forward
Kemar Roofe is currently out with an injury, and many believe that the club needs to sign a new striker who would guarantee 20-25 goals. However, a striker doesn’t seem to be in sight at the moment. Patrick Bamford will have to step up after an underwhelming first year at Elland Road.
An outright forward might not be on the cards, but a move for Ryan Kent could genuinely happen as reported by Leeds Live.
Goalkeeper
With the departure of Peacock-Farrell, the Whites are short in the goalkeeping department. Trust Bielsa to again look internally to solve the problems here and either of Kamil Miazek or Will Huffer could be given the second choice role.
Therefore apart from Kent, no signing seems to be in sight. So Kinnear’s word about some twist and turns happening could very much indicate about the incoming of the Liverpool man.
