According to the latest reports from the Herald, Celtic are days away from completing the signing of Kilmarnock’s left-back Greg Taylor. The deal is said to be worth £3m, and the report suggests that the fullback has already played his last game for the Killie.
Lennon has made it clear that he wants to bring two or three more players before the transfer window shuts down. Reports (Daily Record) earlier came out that Celtic might not be interested in going up to £3m to land Taylor. Instead, they were willing to involve Jack Hendry in the deal for a possible loan move. However, now it seems like Celtic might have decided to pay the full price for the newly capped Scotland international.
Last update from Kilmarnock manager
The fullback recently didn’t play the game against Aberdeen, and manager Angelo Alessio claimed that it was because of a hamstring problem. The Kilmarnock boss insisted that no bids had been made until the Saturday night as he said, ”At the moment it’s only rumours. I don’t think the club has received any offers from Celtic. We have spoken to the club and the owner, and we want to keep our best players.”
However, things could change by now, and the player seems close to sealing a deal to Parkhead. It is understandable why Celtic are on the lookout for a new left-back as they parted ways with Emilio Izaguirre and Kieran Tierney this summer. They have added Boli Bolingoli-Mbombo, but they need another player to add more depth and competition for places.
The fullback played an integral part in Kilmarnock’s campaign last season. That impressive season earned him an international call up as well. Taylor is quick and agile, and he can carry the ball forward well.
Good signing for Celtic?
We think that he will be a decent pick, but it’s another situation where the board has failed to aim higher. Taylor might go on to impress, but there is a chance that he might meet a similar fate to that of Jack Hendry. Hendry had one good season with Dundee and Celtic signed him up.
He too was a young and upcoming prospect, but he failed to deliver the goods for a club of Celtic’s stature. Hopefully, Taylor will be a more decent bet, but the club might have to be a bit patient as he is still 21. There would be games where he would make mistakes, and the fans have to back him then.
